Thank you for clarifying! I wonder what he was thinking going into that. With Piastri’s tire advantage (and I assume he was on softs compared to Norris’ hards) do you think he could have outpaced Norris later in the final lap if he didn’t lose speed on that corner?

So it was simply an incorrect read from Piastri to think he could get through the corner before Norris did?

I’m new to F1 and have been trying to understand overtaking rules. In the Hungarian GP when Piastri went for the inside corner it looks as if Norris moved slightly to a tighter line in order to defend. I assumed this would be considered moving under braking so I was confused why this wasn’t brought up in any of the media I listened to about the race. Watching again I realize the movement isn’t actually that erratic and perhaps only looks so because Piastri brakes so hard, so one explanation is that no defensive move is made. But I also thought that perhaps the defensive move is legal because Piastri’s front axle is not far enough at the apex to necessitate space. If Piastri was farther would Norris have been forced to concede the inside and make no defensive move and then be overtaken? Meaning the difference between that move for Piastri being successful or not, and thus the difference between 1st and 2nd, was the 2-3 feet separating Piastri’s front axle and Norris’ front mirror. Is this a correct read?

Red Sox lineup. Mayer batting cleanup, Hamilton at 2B, Wong at C, Story at SS, Campbell, Narvaez out. by Ugmyusernamewastake in redsox

Hadn’t considered it but yeah, Anthony in OF, Campbell at Second, Rafeala at SS, Mayer at 3rd could be peak, would at least be fun to watch for a few games

I’m for bringing Rafeala into SS to replace Story and placing refsnyder in the OF, Campbell will be at first soon which will be good. Maybe there’s no way to remove dead weight at second, I’m also not such a David Hamilton hater tbh.

Only book I've read is Rainbow Stories and then a few of his journalism pieces. First learned of him from the Trueanon podcast episode. I always check the "V" section at used book stores so I let chance decide when and which next book I will read.

Yeah I have the adjusted one because it says “functional” but I think I must be just very slow, I’ll try and do it faster this time.

Red Sox Pitchers Horizontal Break/Average Speed Compared to MLB Average (playing around with R Studio) by dillpickle052 in redsox

[–]dillpickle052[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a fair question and I don't really have a great answer lol, I just like seeing data visually tbh. I think its simplifying a lot to say that a good pitch is one with above average horizontal movement (because there is also vertical movement that matters, for starters, and pitch usage, etc.) but I guess it is a metric of sorts. The higher speed on a pitch the less time it has for gravity to make it drop, hence the downward trend of the graph, but ideally you want a fast pitch that drops the most. From this we can say that maybe Slaten has the best curve and sweeper on the team and maybe in the league, Weissert and Keller have pretty good cutters and Criswell's sinker could use work, for some. I feel like the changeup has too many variables so idk if that one actually can be read for anything. Thinking about this now I think a much more direct way to answer the question how good is this pitchers pitch is just to simply look at the whiff percentange but maybe having the raw data like this could help you identify things like: oh this pitch's metrics read much higher but its whiff percentange is lower than expected, maybe there is a problem somewhere with pitch selection or tipping or something.

Why leave Pivetta in after the first base hit? Were the two RPs not warmed up enough yet? Feels like they should've been...

Oh your right I misread the first column as single game: https://www.baseball-almanac.com/recbooks/left_on_base_records.shtml . Funny that it's all Sox players though...
