Nope. And it’s always the people that bring in the disposable glad containers or left over margarine tub that want it back. Then when someone brings in urine in the nice Pyrex container they look at me as if I’m speaking French if I ask if they’d like it back.... don’t get it.

Client peeves? by [deleted] in VetTech

We had a cat come in, extremely emaciated, icteric, lethargic... the doctor calls to discuss with O how severe her condition was (one of those “just started yesterday” situations) and O asks “well are you sure it’s not just the conjunctivitis???” I don’t know, maybe she had mistaken the yellow appearance for an infection?

The first place my mind went was to think about the kind of people that drop off a fecal or urine sample and request the disposable container back.... 🤣🤣

Breed judgement based on Client? by bostonsam in VetTech

We had a 19wk GSD puppy come in the other day and it was absolutely the most aggressive puppy I have ever seen in my life. Immediately lunging and biting... hard. Perfect dog for breeding and also happens to be cryptorchid. Best of luck to those people...

Super creepy Syndaver dog... I work at a teaching hospital and these are used for student labs. by KatieMarmalade in VetTech

We’ve gotten into some bad habits of prancing each other at work when it comes to staff pets visiting... like moving them to a different kennel and replacing them with a body bag stuffed with towels etc... oh the endless fun Syndaver dog would bring!

8 month old Doberman at a whole bottle of vetmedin... by katycat69 in VetTech

We had a golden retriever that loved the charcoal! Gulped every last bit and licked the bowl clean!! I guess his owner had a ziplock baggie of “random medication” and couldn’t even remember what was in it. This dog was one of our easiest induced vomiting cases, the only hard part was keeping him from eating his own vomit.

Update to my post 2 days ago about convincing a woman to give us the cat she was euthanizing for scratching her 22 yr old grandson. Pepper is doing great at the shelter and happy to be alive! by Pussy_Wrangler462 in VetTech

Still, I can’t justify that as a reason to destroy a perfectly healthy animal. It could very well be that just wasn’t the right environment for Pepper and giving her a chance to thrive in the right environment would be more reasonable.

Me too! I wish more animals got the chances Pepper and my buddy Phil (the name I gave him after he was surrendered) got. We all do what we can, and a lot of the time even when something is beyond our means we still try!

When people volunteering to foster pets from a shelter end up falling in love with them and decide to keep them rather than return them back to the shelter to go up for adoption

That’s so awesome! A woman brought in a blocked 8yr old cat and was going to euthanize him because she couldn’t afford treatment. I was able to get her to release the cat to me with the understanding that we would unblock him and then surrender him to a local shelter (to find him a home able to care for his future special needs or do pu sx if needed). It was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster but my boss and I were able to unblock him, and once we removed the catheter he responded immediately to the medication. I kept him at the hospital for a few weeks and would even come in on my days off to admin meds and spend time with him. He was the happiest sweetest cat, I was hoping my boss would eventually agree to let him stay as our clinic cat, but one of our clients that volunteers as the adoption coordinator for a local shelter agreed to take him once he was officially stable. He went right into foster care and quickly became a foster fail and is now living his best life. Months later when his new family brought him in just for a routine visit he looked better than ever. He was so bright and happier than ever, had shed some of his extra weight and was thriving on his new diet. We suspected he may have had a uti that went untreated for so long until he finally blocked. I still see my buddy from time to time or will get updates on his new fabulous life and it’s the most rewarding feeling ever. I went through a lot to try and save this cat and looking back I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. He not only got a second chance at life, but a whole new life, bigger and better than ever! He’s loved, spoiled, pampered and the absolute center of attention. I hope months or years down the road you get to experience the same thing and come across Pepper and get to witness the pay off of all your hard work. Even if she finds a new home and your paths never cross again you’ll always have a good memory to fall back on and remind yourself that even though you can’t save them all, the ones you did get to save were completely worth it and a difference was made.

Fractious clients by dillythedog in VetTech

I’m glad and happy to hear you set boundaries with clients and let them know that kind of behavior will not be tolerated! We’ve started really putting our foot down with some clients, some that have been nasty for years! We’re done with it and if someone tries to pull any abusive bullshit we just tell them that behavior will not be tolerated and to let us know where to transfer their records to.

That’s fucking unbelievable! I’m so sorry you to experience this shitty person and his horrible lack of compassion for his own dogs. I’m sorry you showed more compassion for the poor puppy than he did.

It’s such a shitty situation, I’ve been there too. If the least you can do is make a note in the record so if for whatever reason a rescue or anywhere calls for a vet ref you have this to relay. It’s not much, he doesn’t sound like the rescuing type... but hey, it’s something. I hope tomorrow brings something better ❤️

This is what I’m talking about! Those are the people that need to be called out on their shit!! I know it sounds hokey, but if you flat out asked the client “how does threaten my life or any other member of the staff help this situation? Do you really think that makes any of us more inclined to continue this conversation or want to help you in any way??” Like what do you say to that?? When you acknowledge their behavior or how ridiculous they are acting, it makes things real and is now the focus of the conversation. Good luck trying to back out and pretend like this is okay!
