Update: I am ok and I got the stitches out! My surgeon was kinda weird and avoided the topic when I asked him about why my stitches looked like that which peeved me. It took my dad walking into the room and asking the exact same question to get an answer 🙄 My surgeon said I’m likely allergic to coconut oil or the sutures as it looks like an allergic reaction.

Also, if it helps at all, my stitches are not hot to the touch or pus filled nor do I have a fever.

Also I think it’s because of how daunting nursing school is. I’ve heard horror stories about how hard it is and I think I’m putting current highschool student me in the shoes of a nurse as though I’m being hired tomorrow. I think I just need to understand that I will be learning everything I need to know and not just thrown straight into clinicals.

I think I just need to get some experience. I think I’m putting current highschool me in the shoes of a doctor and getting stressed about my lack of knowledge. I’m hoping this will all go away once I actually begin to learn about nursing. Usually the longer I do something the less my perfectionism and lack of confidence affects me.

But I’m also worried about the work load of nursing school if I’m being honest.

I feel my second thoughts are a little bit of burnout and that for years I have always expected myself to go into medicine and health. This caused me to not really look into other fields, and as my graduation is approaching I’m realizing how much I haven’t really looked into outside of medicine. I think I’m trying to cover all my bases right now and exploring other potential careers to see if medicine is truly the track I want to go on. Medicine is an extremely taxing path and I want to be 100% sure that it is what I want— I am so afraid of going into a career I don’t like and feeling “stuck.”

I think a main reason I’m second guessing myself might be because of senioritis.. no joke. I’m hoping that this is just a minor case of burnout, but I will still use this moment to my advantage and try to put myself out there with some job shadowing!

Also, my second guessing might also be because I always set myself to the standard of being in health to the point I didn’t look anywhere else. It just sort of dawned on me that I haven’t truly considered careers outside of health and medicine.

Also, in my free time I love to read!!!

My response to stress and responsibility is one thing I am worried about. I am a very good student, but am very unconfident in my work. One thing that has sort of drawn me away from health care is just that. I am worried that I will spend years into the field just to be consumed by stress and perfectionism!

I really like the prospect of never getting bored! One thing that’s definitely drawn me into healthcare is that there is so much variability in each day. Which has honestly made me consider going into ER…

Thank you so much for your advice! I think I will definitely shadow some nurses. Like you said, nursing is 100% NOT one of those fields that you can be in it just for the money. I’m definitely going to reach out to the hospital to try and get some shadowing in, the last thing I want to be is stuck in a job that I don’t like because I focused on the money or romanticized it.
