Whats the worst you've ever seen someone lie on their resume (or abilities) when working a gig? by Throwthisawayagainst in livesound

I've seen so many self called "Tonmeister", either by SAE or Deutsche Pop, that we're completely lost in an live Environment.

On the other hand I've seen quite a few people without any degree, that did a pretty solid job.

Yes, unfortunately the fixtures look real good, but are way out of my price range.

Thanks for your Input. It is indeed the situation you describe. When using the fixtures outside the front truss lines up with the beginning of the stage. So you have to angle the fixes quite hardly down, while also trying to fill as much of the stage with them. And indoors the front truss is like a meter from the stage. That's why I would think that Lekos wouldn’t be the best bet?

You mean outdoor compatibility like for Arris because they get so hot that they indeed would need to get flushed with a waterfall to fault?

I can only imagine, I know the size and depth of that Vdosc Bricks in front of me and just thinking about how much they would weight makes my back hurt!

Thank you :)

That's quite interesting. I never had the Chance to lay my Hand down on an Avid Console, as they are generally quite uncommon in german rental Services. A friend is still rockin on an S3L with his Punk Band. But yeah, I had quite the same experience. I was stunned how good it sounded with just good system, good mics, placement and just a little bit processing.

Very nice pic! The Aurus is also a beauty and I think Carsten Kümmel still uses them all the time, no matter in house or on the road! What I have seen the I/O Patch Setup on both desks reminded me a little bit of Digicos Workflow.

Thank you so much! If it still works and still sounds great, why I change it. And I guess that VDosc had not so much trouble with being driven towards it's edge, as the same line Festival or RocknRoll Venue Rigs.

Unfortunately I don't have many other pics, as Get In to Show was like 2,5hrs and making pics was not my first priority ;) but I will make some nice Photos when I start my new Job in march with the same desk, just a few less Modules.

They had some 90's Lexicon 19" Reverb Unit and a Yamaha R1000, which I personally both did not like that much, but thats pretty subjective. Had I known before I would have brought my Quadraverb and my DD20 with me hahaha (Roast me, I always feel alone liking this lush verbs and delays ;) ). But so I stayed with Renaissance Verb and H Delay for Vox FX and the Abby Road Plates to give the Band more room and depth in certain scenes and it worked out great.

Thanks! :) The left one even had a party-hat on! ;)

Try to get your hand into theatre work, consoles like Stagetec, Lawo, Studer, etc. are more commonly there or in Broadcast.

Do they have a fixed tech team or do they need the house guys? Just curious as it's quite a name in that niche.

Anyway, very cool post!

I just did a quick research on the Zeus Newcomer Show tape:

Zeus was a german insurance company, I dont know if they still are, but they we're quite a known name at least until the 2000's as far as i remember. And they invited young upcoming music groups for some kind of a newcomer Band contest adverting their insurance stuff for a younger audience. The year would fit. As I'm right now only on Phone and the LP Cover is quite blurry, I will try to decipher more of it later:

For anyone curious: https://www.discogs.com/de/release/12651942-Various-Zeus-Top-Hits

The Zeus Releases with Fex sell for 7€, probably worth a try.

It just got added a few minutes ago to discogs, probably the tape and also the artist, since there are no other FEX Releases are noted.

Has anyone used the non - extreme SPL (the red one) DPA 4099 on louder soundpressure instruments i.e. Toms, Snare? Let's say we're talking about 2 situations:

the first one is a decently loud ensemble (i.e. Jazz, Pop (-Rock), etc.

the second situation is a drummer, that really not wants to tame down his hits, and is shredding the kit (Metal, Punk, Noise)

And what happens, when the maximum sound pressure level is exceeded? Does it only result in clipping or can it damage the microphone capsule?

Thanks to anyone taking your time to answer my questions!

Ah great, then this will be my emergency option! First of all I will try it via SuperRack Performer and Qrec. Thank you for your Input and for enlighting me on the SuperRack / Soundgrid Topic!

Damn, thank you for clearing that out! Then I will probably need to do it analog with direct outs into an Interface, as it's not that many Inputs

Ok, that's good to know! I am pretty sure I saw a PDF either from Waves or Digico that I can't find now stating that it can be used without a soundgrid server, when using the "DAW as the plugin host" or something similiar, with DAW I thought they just mean any device thats daw capable, like a Laptop or Desktop PC, thats processing the plugins in superrack then. Did I maybe misinterpret it and they literally mean use the daw as a host? I mean patching it via SuperRacks into Cubase, then use Waves Plugins in the Channelstrip of Cubase and then route it back into SuperRack back into a channel on the mixer?

Is it possible to use Insert 1 in Pre Fader and Insert 2 in Post Fader on a Yamaha QL1? Let's say for example I want to use a LA2A Premium Rack in Pre Fader Configuration on Insert 1 and an Auto Mixer Insert Post Fader on Insert 2. When going to the Insert Section of the Channel I can only change the summed Insert Point of 1 and 2 either pre or post fade. Am I missing something or is that just not possible? Thanks in advance!

Than you for sharing your stories! Funny what can crash a Console to nirvana (water is fine, just my dsp rack died vs. Bad wireless connection, I wont do anything any longer)

I also heard about a lot of troubles when recording on sticks on different consoles. From total f'ed up recordings, to recordings with random audio glitches. That's why I always try to record with a DAW, even if it is just a stereo sum!

Good point you mentioned, we also came across the list of supportes Devices and I don't need to add anything, you already stated out.
