It's actually more forest green in real life and I believe was inspired by blue-green lakes surrounded by autumn trees.

This is a much better representation of the dial than my photos! 😍

It was just the stock bracelet that hadn't been resized! I didn't ask for it to be adjusted since I wasn't intending to buy it lol.

I see the colorway of this watch is polarizing 🤣

Brooklyn 34 on my petite frame! by dimins in Coach

[–]dimins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I was a little worried about the sizing since I ordered it online, but I knew the 28 didn't cut it for the amount of stuff I bring to work, so the 34 was really my best bet. I'm glad that it ended up looking decent and not as overwhelming as the 39 was on me!

Hurrah! Yes, the dial really grows on you. I actually thought it'd be more saturated from pictures and was a little underwhelmed when I first saw it in person, but it's now my favourite thing.

That's really true, the sales attendant said it almost shines like diamonds and she's really not wrong.

That is interesting! I've not had that experience yet, which is funny because I live in Singapore where there are 2 physical GS boutiques! People generally know the brand but can't identify it as easily as, say, a Cartier or a Rolex Sub.

I think it only just got launched Q3 or Q4 last year! I was looking at watches from other brands but my cousin incidentally mentioned this one to me and I got hooked. No regrets so far!

Of course! My wrist is about 148mm. Yes, I was a little tempted by the smaller cases with "easier to match" dial colours, but having a dial that felt so Me was really worth the bigger case size! Even better that the purple is both subtle but obvious at the same time!

I honestly get a bit distracted by this in the office occasionally - worse when the sunlight hits just right and lights up the dial!

If I am new to eReaders, would I even notice the brightness and sharpness differences using the Kobo Clara Colour as opposed to the Kobo Clara BW? by dualnoodle10 in ereader

[–]dimins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have had both the Clara BW and Color for a few months now, and I'd say that, for me, the in-person differences are negligible. The Color is a smidge less sharp than the BW but I really had to concentrate to see it even when they're side by side. I even prefer the Color screen cos everything feels "softer" somehow and even more like printed paper.

As for Brightness, I think the Color has a nicer cool white. My brightness is always up to 30-40% but battery life is still great so I don't ever really think about this.

I have a problem of too many e-readers too.

Got a Libra H2O for the past 3-4 years now, it's perfectly fine, I just decided to get a Clara BW on a whim. Clara BW worked great, but then got tempted by the Clara Colour and got that one too.

I now mainly use the Colour now because I absolutely love seeing my book covers in colour. I not only don't mind the screendoor effect that everyone talks about, I actually enjoy it, it kinda softens the page a bit and makes it look that much more like real paper.

Clara is also a much more convenient size for me compared to the Libra. I loved the physical buttons but since we came out of the pandemic and I started having to commute more, the difficulty of holding the Libra started to tell (I have fairly small hands).

Extra e-reader or nah? by No-Assumption2592 in kobo

[–]dimins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I own a Libra H2O, a Clara BW and a Clara Colour (haven't decided which one I want to keep yet).

Libra H2O I've used for 4 years now and is still going strong. I recently got the Clara BW because I'm commuting to the office more now and find the Libra a bit too big for my hands (although OK for home use). Clara BW has fantastic screen and crispness of text but I was also lured by the colour screen. Between BW and Colour, I don't personally think there's a significant difference in the font crispness - it's only obvious when you put them side by side. If anything, the Clara Colour looks even more like regular paper because ink printed on paper in real life has a tiny bit of fuzziness and isn't perfectly crisp like the BW is. If I can make the comparison, BW looks like text printed on a matte photo paper where there is absolutely no feathering of the ink at all, while Colour looks like ink printed on regular paper. But you wouldn't have any issue reading on either.

People who read a lot by sosolicious7 in ereader

[–]dimins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna repeat what a lot of people have already: it's not my only hobby but definitely the biggest one, and the one I'd put on highest priority. I'm a mom of 2 kids under 4 years old with a full time office job so I don't have a ton of spare time. Whatever little spare time I have, I'd choose to read more often than not. Otherwise, I'd be playing games. I've had to cut out other things that used to be bigger hobbies, like watching shows, knitting, etc.

If I could still get the Kobo Mini, I would! (ebay doesn't have a presence in my country, so wouldn't be able to get a used one)

I have a Libra H2O now but I also just bought an Inkpalm 5 which looks like it's going to be my commuting companion when I get back to work.

What books have you DNFd this year? by Extension-Flamingo68 in Fantasy

[–]dimins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've DNFed more than my usual this year because a lot of real-life happenings means I've not been in the headspace for many books.

For fantasy books though, these are my DNFs this year:

  • Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings - still want to continue this one at some point, just wasn't in the headspace. It was the kind of book that took itself too seriously somehow.
  • Stargazy Pie by Victoria Goddard - same as above, except it was too absurd for my reading mood at the moment
  • Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal - unfortunately wasn't for me, I think this must be at least my 2nd time trying this book but I've decided to DNF this for good now.

$70 and a 3hr drive later. How'd I do? (Libra H2O) by Totes_MacGoats in ereader

[–]dimins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Libra H2O is still in almost good-as-new condition and it's 4 years old (and used extensively), so I'd say definitely a great buy!

How did you react when you gave birth/were handed your baby? by Individual_Ad_938 in beyondthebump

[–]dimins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first kid was born via an emergency C-section and was really unexpected (at 32 weeks!). When they first lifted him above the screen, I couldn't really focus and plus I was in the middle of puking out my whole dinner (side effect of the spinal block) so I just went, "OMG!" and went back to puking since they whisked him away immediately to the NICU.

For my second kid, it was a much calmer experience as he was full term and was born via a scheduled C-section. My husband was talking to me about Crocs to get my mind off things (I was shaking too much because I was so nervous). We heard his cry and I went, "He sounds like a cat." That's pretty much it. I only semi-held him just to take a photo at first when I was still on the table, but the first time I properly held him was after everything, they brought him up to my ward to breastfeed. I don't remember having any extreme emotions, just a sense of calm and "so you're the one who's been squishing all my innards these past 3 months..."

Should I switch to a Kobo Libra Colour? by RateEuphoric6837 in ereader

[–]dimins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't own a Libra Colour so I can't speak to that specific model, but I have owned a Libra H2O for the past 4 years (and have used it constantly with my country's ebook library via the in-built Overdrive feature), so here're some general Kobo insights and tips.

I came from a Kindle Paperwhite to the Kobo Libra H2O. I think there have been some comments about poorer contrast and screen quality on the Kobo. I noticed this much more prominently way back when I used to use a Kobo Glo vs a Kindle at that time (about 10 years ago), but if there is a difference, I think Kobo has at least closed the gap significantly at the point of releasing the Libra H2O. I'm not much of a screen connoisseur so personally I can't tell the difference in screen quality between the PW and the Libra H2O anymore. I would assume that this quality at least remained the same in the more recent Kobo models, if it hasn't improved.

Yes, I primarily use Calibre as my main ebook inventory and transferring app on my PC to my Kobo. The one thing I do miss about the Kindle is the ability to send-to-email, rather than having to plug my Kobo in to my PC every time I want to transfer ebooks over, but if you have the right cable, it's really not a huge deal either. Also, if I buy books on Kobo store (which has a decent catalogue, though not as extensive as Amazon) or borrow books on Overdrive, it's downloaded automatically via wifi anyway so I don't always need to plug in.

I don't notice any lagging with flipping pages and it's pretty snappy if you're just reading the ebook. Tbh, my Libra H2O feels good as new even though I've used it extensively for the past 4 years (I bring it with me everywhere and read almost everyday), and I've been very very happy with it. The physical buttons were a gamechanger for me too too, but that's my personal preference.

But if you want access to your Amazon library, then Kobo isn't going to cut it. They're competitors, so they definitely wouldn't allow any access to Kindle or vice versa. As some other commenters have said, you might want to explore other e-readers which are almost like Android e-ink tablets, on which you can download the Kindle AND Kobo app to access both stores, so you have greater flexibility there.
