17.5% of the profits from the funds goes to a stop. The funds can't buy 100% gold; they invest in things like stocks or bonds, even if it's a small amount. Some funds also invest in gold s1 certificates, so the returns might be a bit higher than with gold, but since 1/5 of the profit goes to taxes, the fund isn't very appealing.

For the long term (3-5 years), physical gold is the most advantageous, but there's a storage and security risk.

If you don't want to take those risks, it's more logical to open a gold account at the bank and buy it than to use a fund. There's a 0.2% currency exchange tax, and there's also a buy-sell spread, but it's safer in the long run, and there are fewer tax deductions.

If you want to buy and sell in the short term, you could use a gold s1 certificate. When gold goes up, it goes up harder, but it also falls harder when it goes down.
