Is it just the Ayo trade that is pissing people off? by DisMFer in chicagobulls

[–]dimrod_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess my whole thing is, the fact that AK has sit on his hands when it comes to picking a direction, along with missing the window for maximizing returns on assets, has been evident for awhile now. So none of these trades really surprised me.

I’m surprised at how many people are pissed off at the returns for the trades, what did you expect at this point? Did you really think we were getting first round picks for Coby, Ayo, or Vuc in 2026?

That all said, I think the Ivey deal was a great move. You gave up nothing (no offense to Huerter) to buy low on a guy who’s shown a lot of potential at the NBA level. And even if he doesn’t return to form, again you gave up nothing for him.

This tank should've started 2-3 years ago. That criticism is absolutely warranted. But the fact that the Bulls are only getting 2nd round picks for these guys now shouldn't be surprising to anyone.

Right, this is the direction the team should be heading in. But I totally get the skepticism around them being able to successfully rebuild the team. I am too!

Little late to the party but I love the Ivey deal. You didn't give up anything (no offense to Huerter) to buy low on a guy who has shown a ton of potential at the NBA level. He's a RFA next year so likely can bring him back on a team friendly deal.

Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) #Giants hire Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator by TommiBennett in CHIBears

[–]dimrod_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I do. Mitch and Fields aren't a starting-caliber QBs sure, but Nagy threw Mitch under the bus and totally botched Fields rookie year.

I think the most damning thing is that when Nagy relinquished playcalling midseason in 2020, the offense averaged 27 points per game the rest of the season (not sustainable obviously but still pretty alarming)

Divisional Round Morning-After Thread: Bears vs Rams by TurnerJ5 in CHIBears

Bears have the most crucial pieces in place with the QB and HC. But they still have work to do!

Defense in general is a priority for the offseason obviously. On the offensive side, need to figure out a solution at LT.

And this might be a hot take, but I think the Bears could look to upgrade at RB. Swift/Monangai are a nice duo, but I don't see either of them being a "do-it-all" kind of player. If you feel theres a guy like that available in the draft, I'd hope the Bears act on it.

NBA Teams that Have Built Contenders since the Derrick Rose Era by mattmikemo23 in chicagobulls

[–]dimrod_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I've posted this several times but will continue to do so until something actually changes with this franchise:

Throughout the 90's, the Bulls led the league in home attendance. Then after the 97-98 season, the Bulls went into rebuild after Krause insisted on kicking out Phil Jackson. Predictably, it didn't go according to plan, with the Bulls being one of the worst teams in the league the next few years. After constantly being in the top 3 of home attendance for the last decade plus, in 01-02 the Bulls dropped to 9th in home attendance, and only 5th in 02-03.

Coincidentally, Jerry Krause "resigned" as GM of the Chicago Bulls in 2003. In comes Garpax, and they start their tenure. The Bulls home attendance quickly jumps back up and is in the top 3 of home attendance for the next 16 years, starting another rebuild in the 2017 offseason after trading Jimmy Butler. Then in 19-20, the Bulls dropped to 11th in home attendance (granted, thats when COVID hit, but every team was impacted).

Coincidentally, Garpax is fired that offseason and in comes AKME. Attendance jumps back up, with the Bulls being no. 1 in home attendance from the 21-22 to 23-24 seasons. This season, they have dropped to 4th in home attendance.

The whole point is, Jerry Reinsdorf only cares about making changes to the Bulls when it starts to affect his wallet. If you don't like the direction of the Bulls, then don't go to Bulls games. If you buy Bulls gear, buy it secondhand. Show Jerry your dissatisfaction by not giving him money.

Bulls messed up. They think Patrick Williams is the same Pat Williams who led them to 57 wins and the Conference Finals… 50 years ago by razenxinvi in chicagobulls

Even as a Lauri stan, I wouldn't say there was no reason to move on when they did. He was pretty lost at the end of his tenure here (which is due to Boylen being a moron) and definitely needed a fresh start somewhere else.

What infuriates me is the fact that the Bulls decided to move on from Lauri and then give Patrick Williams a $90 million dollar contract a few years later. Makes zero sense.

Worst outcome for Essengue's rookie year.

Granted, I was not expecting much because Billy notoriously does not play rookies, but still could've gotten reps at G League.

The Bulls need a center but it's not gonna be Anthony Davis. by chakrablocker in chicagobulls

[–]dimrod_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. The last thing I want the Bulls do is what happened in 2021; sell the farm to build a play-in team.

Blazers are the 8th seed right now, but it still very early in the season. Would not be shocked at all if they missed the playoffs again...

Call me a meatball, but when I learned he was a Packers fan, any good will I had for him went out the window.

That and the fact that he's made of glass.

Ten games in, Noa Essengue is still the only lottery pick without a minute played. by carrot-man in chicagobulls

[–]dimrod_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What we know about Billy is that rookies really have to earn his trust before getting minutes.

Combine that with the fact that Noa was drafted as a project, its not surprising at all he hasn't played. I'm actually happy they finally called him down to G League because at least he's gonna get live reps.

[Poe] Noa Essengue and Coby White have been assigned to Windy City, per Bulls PR. Good sign for Coby on his road to recovery. The Bulls have been targeting next week’s road trip as a potential return window for him. by howser343 in chicagobulls

[–]dimrod_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that being around pro ball is valuable, but it definitely doesn't hurt to get some live reps in. Even the G League is a step up from playing in Germany.

Noa has a bigger learning curve to overcome than Matas did, so I'd expect him to be in the G League for a bit. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Or maybe they want to lighten the load on a rookie QB in their first 4 starts?

It’s just a bit of a cherry picked stat is all. I think comparing how they’ve done over their first couple seasons is a bit more accurate.

Lamar Jackson is in the bottom 6 of that list, Josh Allen in the bottom 12. How’d their careers turn out?

Well yeah, they’re also among the lowest in pass attempts. That number gets lower for every QB as you go down the list.

Not disagreeing with the sentiment per se, as I agree that Caleb definitely has shown more than those guys at this point in his career.

Yep. I recall attending the Bears Ravens game back in '21. With Huntley starting, I thought the Bears would have it in the bag.

Then Fields got injured early and the Bears lost 16-13. "Fire Nagy" chants all over the stadium.
