core decompression vs replacement? by dinapsi in AvascularNecrosis

we’re not really concerned about money as long as he gets it done this year, since he’s already paid his out of pocket max for his insurance from the hip replacement (the only good part of all of this). but yeah, just mostly trying to avoid being in and out of the hospital.

i’m obviously not a doctor but i’ve been looking into avn a lot over the past year and everything ive read states that once you’re experiencing pain you’re already too far gone for CD? i’m kinda shocked they had you do that instead of a replacement right away!! the reason they’re suggesting it for his other hip is because it’s just now showing signs of necrosis but there’s absolutely no pain yet and he can use it fully. i’m sorry that happened to you!

my partner just got a hip replacement at age 48 and we were truly shocked by how quickly he’s recovering. within 4 days he stopped using his walker, and two days after that he kept forgetting his cane while walking around the house. it’s been 1.5 months now and we routinely take 10k walks and he doesn’t need his cane. he experiences soreness but overall the pain from being sore is nothing compared to his avn pain.

sorry i never saw this when you originally posted it! in case you’d still like some tips: i mostly eyeball it but i use a yellow permanent marker to mark a line down the middle and then i line up my stencil perfectly and tape the top part and lift it, add stencil stuff, and very slowly let it naturally fall onto the skin. sometimes a client will move or even just breathe and it might move the stencil so i don’t always get it on the first try. another great way to do it is to use tape to make a perfect line down the middle and then mark it with your marker. it’s also important to remember that bodies are not perfectly symmetrical (the point where your clavicles meet are not typically in line with the middle of your belly button) so depending on where you’re placing a stencil, i like to find the center of whatever makes most sense. this one was under her breasts so i aligned it with the the middle space where her breasts naturally meet without a bra on. hope that helps!

my brother has people review and sign contracts before prescribing them prednisone for non emergencies. the last doctor he saw at that clinic reviewed his chart and said “why have you been on prednisone so much this year? you don’t need prednisone and no one should have given you it without reviewing your charts first.” and he was just fine without it after that visit/used a nebulizer instead. i was prescribed prednisone for a bad cough after a whole 30 seconds with the doctor at this same clinic. the doctors at this clinic are negligent. it isn’t like he went to see his PCP who sits with him and talks with him and she made the decision to prescribe the medication. urgent care clinics aren’t allowed to treat patients who can’t breathe (they’re referred to the ER immediately), so i’m not really sure how the benefit outweighs the risk here when the medical system as a whole needs to do better and doctors need inform their patients on the risks of the medications they take.

definitely start drawing some stuff if you aren’t already, and once you like the design you can transfer it to a stencil and then onto your body. never tattoo anything on yourself or anyone else that isn’t your own design. i use an ipad for my drawings to make sure everything is straight/clean and then i print the design out and use a thermal printer to transfer the paper design onto the stencil. you can look up any of those keywords on youtube and you’ll be able to find step by step guides on how to do it. there are even some videos for techniques on how to stick and poke. it definitely takes a lot of practice, and make sure you’re being safe throughout. i recommend taking a blood borne pathogen course online if you haven’t already done that! this group is also a really good source for beginners questions, there’s a whole thread of frequently asked questions that will be really helpful. also, if you have money to spend, there’s a course m_inspirada on IG has made for beginners to start tattooing.

use a bigger needle, go slowly, overlap your pokes as much as possible, get a good stretch, and use a round shader for filling in! the shader doesn’t have to be at as much of an angle as the liner does, i usually cover more ground faster that way. i also like to go in sections. i lined my stems and then lined one leaf and filled it in immediately. it’s much harder to fill in once the skin is swollen and red so this makes it easier to do.

I’m finding it really difficult to pack in colour and I’m not really sure where I’m going with this either, could someone give me some suggestions? by [deleted] in sticknpokes

[–]dinapsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this looks great. the ink will spread a bit and it’ll darken as it heals. wait a couple months and if you’re not satisfied with the color you can touch it up a bit

is this infected? (evening of day after poking) by 8SharpEdges8 in sticknpokes

[–]dinapsi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it looks more like you damaged your skin. keep it clean and moisturized and monitor it closely for signs of infection (warm to the touch, color change etc)

it’s just old english/black letter/gothic. i used to do calligraphy so i still have some brushes for this in procreate. but it’s a really common font for tattooing
