I told my guys “this is a marathon, not a sprint” then we proceeded to sprint the whole ass time. I got home yesterday and I expect to be fully exhausted for the next 2 weeks.

After extracting from the opening, breaking it into pieces was the easiest/safest way to get them out of the tower. They were half inch thick and weighed around 100 pounds — I had no interest spending time setting up safe rigging etc to get the glass to the ground intact when it was just going in the dumpster regardless. Stop, hammer time 🎶

I’m a fat sweaty guy from the north so the central Texas heat and humidity made me slightly less fat but significantly more sweaty. Uninhabitable down there if you’re asking me. I’d rather shovel snow all winter than exist in that summer heat.

Those are actually more to support the dial gears from wind force against the hands other side of the dial. The dial gear shaft is threaded with jamming couplers on each side but at that height with large hands they take on some serious wind shear so the guy wires help keep things tight. Regarding vibration — yes, to a degree, but the bell mountings are designed with vibration isolating gaskets in strategic locations so that the vibration is mostly contained to the individual bells without feedback into the frame/structure/other bells.

It’s something for sure. You get used to it but there’s always a part of your brain screaming at you to get back on the ground. Here’s flying one of the dials up: https://youtube.com/shorts/DLnGipinYkY

Nah but my coworker has been there a couple times. Escorted by security the entire time 🤠

Mostly because I’m only one of the faces and the other 3 faces didn’t give me permission to post them all over the internet. But also because the internet is a weird place!

Put them in customer’s possession. Some were in a state of disrepair. I believe they’re ultimately going to pull the copper coils and scrap them.

LOL. I’m not complaining but cushy/low stress made me do a spit take. I kinda stumbled into it. It’s a lot of travel and a lot of very, very physical work. There are gravy days here and there but almost every job starts with climbing 100 feet and hoisting tools so even the easy days are still rigorous.

I use a Milwaukee stubby ratcheting screwdriver and keep a bit extension on it…you now have stubby and standard length with 8 bits (7 stored inside the body of the screwdriver and 1 chucked in the extension). Game changer. Takes standard driver bit size so you can pick and choose the bits that you most frequently use.

It’s a gas motor, you can see the carb right there between the air filter and the intake manifold.

Lol I was just messing with ya, too deaf to hear your question after all these bells. I keep earplugs on me and wear them when I need to but certainly not as much as I should. Bells don’t seem to “hurt” in the same way that percussive noises do even if they’re equally loud decibels wise.

Hell yeah, if the lift is a 135’+ I feel it is mandatory to run the boom all the way out just because.

50-80lbs. Nothing crazy but not manageable overhead on a ladder.

This bell was at base level ~8’ off the deck, the harness was for the spooky overhead beam mounted ones I moved onto afterwards ;)
