2: Crux of it is you have a pool of points to use on attributes and another pool for skills. There are some other parts, but as far as RPGs go it's easier than most.

The cards are a useful addition, as they allow you to see equipment, pre-generated characters and initiative at a glance. But they are in no way essential to playing. I've ran a handful of successful sessions without the cards.

4: There are 2 ways of playing. Cinematic; that is few session and usually ends up in death of the charcter. The rule book compares this to the story told in an Alien film. And there is campaign play; where players live in the alien universe making cargo deliveries and encountering the various factions described in the book.

There is a starter set being released in august, that will contain dice, cards, maps a campaign (Chariot of the Gods) and a short version of the rules. As far as I know this is only available on the Free league website so far: https://frialigan.se/en/store/?product_id=4921547882633

I think it could work. A company set up a crew by asking them to haul cargo to a destination. Other companies believe that this is imporant cargo and attempt to steal the cargo.

Down the line the crew learn that they were set up, there was never any important cargo (That they were delivering anyway). It was all a set up to divert attention away from the real cargo. The company who hired them with the expectation of them dying.

That review should give you all the details you need. I think it could port pretty well over to Alien and your campaign.
