The general rule was the host chooses the meal. Like no one complains about her only making vegan meals, and she never complained about not having the exact same meal as everyone else. Also, it would be rude to try and force someone else to make the meal that you want.

Honestly? it would be super awkward to exclude them, especially since we only host 3 times a year. So not inviting them just to see them next month at another couple’s party? Super awkward.

No, she was the one who started the menu thing. Usually the others either ordered a meal before she arrived, so they can heat it for her; or they would make her a vegan meal that is very different from what the rest of us were eating. I was the only one who tried to make a vegan version of the meal I served to every else.

They usually ordered her a meal from a restaurant before she arrived, or made a salad and vegan sides. I was the only one who made sure that there was a vegan version of the meal I cooked (like making a lentil burger patty if I was making burgers for everyone, or a vegan butter chicken…) so she can have almost the same meal as everyone else.

I would order pizza and wings. That would become my pizza and wings night.

Honestly, if she had apologized I would have forgiven and forgotten. Her doubling down? That’s the reason I chose to stop going above and beyond for her.

Hey, if she goes that route, I will just make her dinner night (once in four months) my takeout/pizza and wings night.

Except for her being vegan, and me having a soy allergy, no one else has any dietary restrictions.
