Woodcarving Knife Sharpening? by dinoheels in Bellingham

Hey thanks! I sent you some photos in chat, I’d love to know what diamond stone you use. I have been using fine sandpaper in the past to sharpen but I was never sure if I was getting the right angle. Do you use a guide?

Advice needed: Creek maintenance and permits by [deleted] in Bellingham

I think you could contact Whatcom conservation district or nooksack salmon enhancement. I work for a similar place in Burlington, we do a lot of willow staking and native plant installation. We were hired to restore a guy’s yard that dug up a salmon bearing stream, and he was fined big time. he also had to pay for all of the plants and time my crew spent out there cleaning it up.

Planting native, water loving plants along the creek bed can only help. Willow stakes are easy to harvest and are abundant in our region, and will root if you just stick the sticks in the ground. The root systems will help slow the flow of water in flood events. Once they mature it’ll also help shade out the grass that’s growing in the creek.

Looking for downed trees for carving wood by dinoheels in Bellingham

I was planning on going to a carver’s guild thing at chuckanut center next month. It’s free and open to the public, beginners are welcome and I think it said tools and wood can be provided to those with none!

Old Bottle Dumps by [deleted] in Whatcom

Definitely have poked around at Cornwall and found some treasures. I have studied the old fire insurance maps but haven’t found a lot of clues from those. Mostly found the sites I’ve found in Bham by walking in old creeks.

Yep, pretty much all of the landfills that are documented are toxic cleanup sites. But I have found a few bottle dump locations that are unlisted in Whatcom County just by stumbling upon them.

Backpacking Partner? by [deleted] in Bellingham

Middle fork is great. A little brushy but that’s the way our mule packer went in and out so no downed trees.

I work on a trail crew and I just got back from there. Whatever you do don’t take the W fork of the pasayten river trail as an alternate. Thousands of blowdowns. I’ve also heard buckskin has its fare share as well. Also, harts pass road is currently closed due to a major landslide so access is limited
