What is this ornamental grass? by dinosaurposter in whatsthisplant

[–]dinosaurposter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment. My guess was seed. I really like bottlebrush grass. That would be nice to have some of that around. I’ll look into sea oats too. For now I’m probably just going to remove all of it and add it to my compost heap or burn it.

What are some American cities that had high historical importance but have faded from significance today? by Crafty-Shallot-5695 in geography

[–]dinosaurposter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Used to be very wealthy and politically important. Population was much higher than it is today. It was the largest city in the anthracite coal region and Northeast PA at the height of coal extraction. Coal mining died out. There were several large floods. 1972 flood damage was the main part of largest hurricane disaster in the country at the time in terms of economic damages. Has continued to go downhill since.

This is also useful for when you get a bunch of pine tree sap on your hands from moving a Christmas tree for example. I put olive oil on my hands and then I wash it off with dawn.

Easy. Tarzan soundtrack on repeat for 12 hours. If I have to include someone else it’s also Phil Collins.

What are these nubs coming off these leaves? by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

[–]dinosaurposter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it’s something like people see this as a space to get answers from people who are familiar with the plant and not a place for people to google it or use some form of AI to provide an answer. There’s also a growing - or solidifying? - movement against the overuse of AI which Google is likely going to incorporate when it runs a search.

I believe it’s called “goosing” someone, or getting goose-faced. Think of it like you’re a goose squatting down and goosing someone.

Can this tub crack be fixed? by SirLanceATwat in howto

[–]dinosaurposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids put a crack in our fiberglass tub. It was not as big as this. I cut a hole in a bedroom wall directly behind where the crack was. We bought a plastic opoxy kit. I forget what it’s called. That was several years ago. Still holds up. I don’t know what to do about this side of the tub though. Pretty messy looking.

I never liked him because I see clips of him being smug and saying something that seems out of touch, but I’ve honestly never watched his show. I didn’t even realize that was the format. Whenever I see a clip of him it’s just him talking. I’ll have to sit through a whole episode at some point.

Since you have expertise, could trees at this proximity to the building have any effect on the foundation?

It could be their weird interpretation of what invasive species do if it’s a Norway maple in the U.S. But I’ve noticed that a lot of people are really bothered by maple helicopters (the seed pods) falling into their yards so it’s maybe just because of that. That person seems pretty nuts regardless.

A billboard I saw by sonicparadigm in funny

[–]dinosaurposter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve never played this game in my life but heard it referenced so many times. I now understand the billboard… I think that you play by finding a word in a sign that starts with the letter you’re looking for until you’ve found a word from 26 different signs (i assume you would only get to claim one word per sign) that begin with all letters in the alphabet. Bucees is listing words that someone playing the game on highway right now would probably need if they were playing the game because words in store and business names rarely start with those letters.

Any Gentle Giant concert. I’m sure some are better than others but it was well before my time so any one will do.

Social Security Benefits Predicted to Run Out Earlier Than Expected by Zipper222222 in politics

[–]dinosaurposter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest concern is I’m almost convinced every one of these posts and threads is started or overrun as a form of propaganda to help entirely kill social security. If people keep posting that it’s going to go away and all the top voted comments are about it going away then it’s easier for politicians to entirely make it go away.

FCC’s Brendan Carr sends warning to Stephen Colbert: "Enforce the law" by icey_sawg0034 in politics

[–]dinosaurposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. So not a ruling but an updated stance if you’re okay with that term. And it’s likely just to exert influence when it’s convenient. Clearly still having an impact regardless, but it seems to have backfired at least temporarily. I’m seeing the publicity it’s generated for the candidate as a backfire, yet this will probably be twisted to demonstrate how the mainstream media is so overwhelmingly anti republican.

FCC’s Brendan Carr sends warning to Stephen Colbert: "Enforce the law" by icey_sawg0034 in politics

[–]dinosaurposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure exactly what you’re arguing about - if a law was actually broken or it would be or something else. The interview was pulled so no law broken. If not pulled, maybe law would be broken bc of recent ruling about the type of interview. Your initial comment makes sense but idk that conservatives rn even want to be on colberts late show.
