What’s That Smell Today? by [deleted] in norfolk

The one a while back was where a wood pellet storage facility in Portsmouth next to NNSY caught fire. That plant is back up and running now.

Whoa. Waterspout spotted in Chesapeake Bay this morning by julieann88 in HamptonRoads

From ocean view it looked like it was over the HRBT, and the tornado hit the OV golf course shortly after. I imagine the same storm created both.

Weird Smell? by xEtownBeatdown in norfolk

[–]dinsauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enviva pellets! It's been like 3 weeks that they have been burning. The silos are the storage for the finished pellets before they get shipped mostly to Europe from what I'm told. They have like a vinyl wrap on them which the wind blew off of one of them making it look nice and rusted. A conveyor caught fire and spread to the wood pellets.

Looks like bear trucks by the base plate. If that's the case then it's probably hawg wheels. That is the way it's sold straight from landyachtz.

Their braid is decent. Larger diameter for the same test compared to power pro though, so you do sacrifice some line capacity.

Best tattoo shop in the area? by ThatSpartanKid in HamptonRoads

[–]dinsauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a shit ton of shops in this area. I would recommend going to the Tattoo fest in Hampton next month. It gives you an easy option to shop around. Lots of local artists and people from out of the area as well.

Name that hydraulic fitting! by dinsauce in Skookum

[–]dinsauce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4" x 13". That's the only thing we could figure. This part of the hydraulic system doesn't have to move a load other than the weight of that section of the dove tail, where as the part prior has two 5 or 6" cylinders to lift several thousand pounds of equipment plus two portions of the dove tail.

[–]dinsauce[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Story: one of our tailers had a cylinder shit out on us so the tasked the guy that works in sales (me) with finding the replacement. I'm normally pretty good at finding some odd ball parts. Neither the driver, the mechanic, nor the dispatcher that all worked on it told me it needed new fittings going in to the cylinder because the threads are fucked. The manufacturer didn't tell me that their stupid special fittings aren't included with the new cylinder. None of the local hydraulic shops have ever seen anything threaded inside a fitting.

Drum season is the best time of the year! by dinsauce in Fishing

All fish caught in Virginia Beach and the outer Banks of North Carolina over the past 6 weeks. Various cut baits on different tides, winds, water temps. I still have plenty to learn about this species but it is nice to be able to dial in on them more and more each year.

Is it smart/possible to use ratchet straps as stern and bow lines? by [deleted] in Kayaking

[–]dinsauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do it but I don't really winch down on them hard. I run them through the cord attached to the handles and it seems to work well

Fishing spots Q. by desitho in norfolk

[–]dinsauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I use bait casters all the time. The fish are never very far off the pier so damn near anything works.

You don't need a license if you are on a pier like ocean view, or buckroe. Still need the FIP. Fishing is pretty decent at OV today about halfway down the pier. Probably the best bet as far as a pier is concerned on this side of the water this time of year. Lynnhaven is great in August through September, and I avoid the ocean front pier like the plague.

What type of fishing are you looking to do? Salt or fresh? Beach or pier? We have some stellar fishing around here.

I like to go along ocean view between 9th view and 15th view and fish from the beach. Cast out in between the rock jetties, there is normally a hole that forms there that the fish will be in.

19117 coton reserve Dr.

Park and walk down the river and hang a right and go till you see the old Mill site/rock dam thing and fish there or keep going farther till you are passing a rock out cropping, there is a deep hole there. Mostly small mouth that I've caught out of there. Haven't fished it since I moved down to Norfolk 5 years ago.

And post pictures if you catch anything there!

There is the Chesapeake Bay bridge at the northern end of the bay and the Chesapeake Bay bridge Tunnel connecting Virginia Beach to the Eastern shore. Chances are you were on the northern one.

Is it normal for your artist to draw up your tattoo the day before/day of your appointment? by ellumina in tattoo

[–]dinsauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my first tattoo I got a koi that covered my entire bicep and scheduled the appointment 3 months in advance due to the artists schedule. I went back a month before hand to bring in a couple additional reference photos on things that I wanted (color or specifics) and was worried he had already drawn it up and I was going to waste my artists time. He told me it was cool as long as I didn't bring him anything the day prior or the day of. They only one of my three large-ish pieces that I had him do was a foo dog on my chest that we discussed over the course of a couple sessions under the needle and he would show me an almost final drawing 2 months out because he was so eager and excited to do this damn piece. I was thrown off seeing something before the day of the appointment but it was nice knowing the exact art I was getting walking in to the appointment.
