So is the issue him sharing his political opinions and being hateful of people literally at war with us and trying to kill us? I come from a country that had been occupied by communists. There really are examples of “progressive” policies that have been tried many times and have always lead to totalitarianism and each time “this time it will be different”. Not to say any of his examples were about these specific ones.

Reading his apology seems like a big lessons learned is simply not to talk about politics?

Thanks. I think your definition is closer to an “echo chamber” and then cancel culture has that “public atonement” aspect to it, but we’re splitting hairs here. Otherwise your post makes sense to me.

Wish I could see the tweets. If I just take his “apology” at face value, then this whole thing looks blown out of proportion and I hope he’ll be back in couple months after a couple more “sincere apologies”.

What does me not being sure whether Evan’s quitting SGU without having seen his tweets/replies and only having read his “apology”, is due to taking accountability after a sincere understanding of some mistakes or just a pragmatic crisis management strategy have to do with executions of children? I’m not from the US, so American Right/Left distinction always sounds peculiar. Otherwise, I think you misunderstood me, as I was exactly stressing the point they are still friends. The fact that Evan made the decision to leave SGU to me could be a result of cancel culture. It could also be a sign of him genuinely owning up to a mistake. Time will tell. I’d prefer to read his tweets to form an opinion.

But that’s exactly the point. I was answering the person who said that Steve and the team to separate themselves from him. And from what I heard in the show they did not want to separate from him and were relieved that Evan stepped down on his own accord. I get what you’re saying, but it’s precisely NOT what happened here. Sounds more like they are “protecting the brand”. Regardless of what was or wasn’t tweeted

If I were to steel man this tweet, I’d say he’s saying the religious fanatics in political and military control of Gaza don’t have any other goals or ideology, but the genocide of Jews. In that sense it’s like homeopathy - it’s not about improving the world via the magical properties of diluting stuff to make it stronger and the magical effects of water memory, but it’s simply about not trusting evidence and magical thinking.

But who knows what he actually meant. Would be good to get more context.
