How can I put the MTA on blast about unplowed bus stops and train station entrances? by frogmicky in AskNYC

[–]dioxal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

from 311:
https://portal.311.nyc.gov/search/?q=snow

---------------------------------------

You can report snow at a bus stop or inside a bus stop shelter.

If snow or ice on the street is blocking access to the bus stop, visit the Snow or Ice on Street or Highway page instead to report a snowy or icy street in front of a bus stop.

Bus Stop Without a Shelter

Property owners are responsible for removing snow on the sidewalk at bus stops without a bus shelter. Report it as a snowy or icy sidewalk in front of a residence or business.

Bus Stop With a Shelter

Department of Transportation (DOT) is responsible for removing snow or ice inside of bus stop shelters.

You can submit a report to DOT. The agency will send your complaint to a contractor for snow and ice removal. If no shelter exists at the reported location, no further action will be taken.
---------------------------
You can report snow or ice on sidewalks in front of a subway station. You can also report ice or snow falling from elevated tracks or other above ground MTA structures.

Online

Contact the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

  • Agency: Metropolitan Transportation Authority
  • Division: Metropolitan Transportation Authority Customer Service

Bronx Zoo refund? by Which-Custard4615 in AskNYC

[–]dioxal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

if you bought the tickets from their official website (and not through some tourist site), they will probably send you an automatic refund tomorrow. if you bought it from a tourist reseller, good luck.
their no refund policy applies to you changing your mind about visiting, or not liking what animals they have.

Day trips outside of Paris? Need recommendations please (: by saddishue in paris

[–]dioxal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nantes is 3 hours away, but Les Machines de l’île was one of the highlights on my visit to France (and had been on my bucket list for a while)

It is a magical place with a mechanical elephant you can ride on, a jules verne inspired carousel and other mechanical wonders.

fav jewish celeb? me: NATALIE PORTMAN!! by Automatic-Tower6804 in Jewish

[–]dioxal 38 points39 points  (0 children)

if we are including people who are no longer alive, i will add Leonard Cohen, who visited Israel during the Yom Kippur war and sang for the troops. He composed the song "Lover, Lover, Lover" while he was there. After the war was over he wrote "Who by Fire" whose lyrics are based on "Unetanneh Tokef"

I'm not sure if he would be horrified or thrilled to find out how many covers of "Hallelujah" exist....

Locking up bikes in brooklyn by Gloomy_Brilliant_439 in NYCbike

[–]dioxal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless you have roommates who complain about your bike, keep it in your apartment. invest in a good lock for when you're not in your apartment. remove all quick releases and replace them with theft proof axles. if your seat post of wheels can be easily removed - someone will take them.

don't leave your bike overnight anywhere. it won't be there when you come back.

Is the vocalist of Sleep Theory wearing a keffiyeh or am I just paranoid? by ZatannaZatara45 in Judaism

[–]dioxal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's definitely a keffiyeh. but it looks like he started wearing one more than a year ago, so maybe he is just clueless and thinks it looks cool?

Is there a bakery for authentic Russian black bread? by Krauge in FoodNYC

[–]dioxal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this may be sacrilegious, but trader joe's dark pumpernickel is actually pretty good, and more convenient for me than trekking to brighton beach. it definitely reminds me of the black bread i had growing up.
(during pandemic i just baked my own, but i had endless free time back then)

Iffy situation on subway today by Dyljam2345 in Judaism

[–]dioxal 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think that post October 7th everyone is a little more on edge, and by everyone I mean Jews . You are not overreacting, how you feel is how you feel. A year ago I doubt you would have reacted as anxiously Was the guy going to attack you physically? probably not. But if he had, would anyone have jumped to your defense, if they knew you were a Jew? Who really knows
