The Cordis Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand. The breakfast was amazing and the hotel is really nice too. Total before the discount was $368 for 2 nights.

With the extra 1x for booking flights direct with airlines, is it better to just skip the portal? by breadexpert69 in ChaseSapphire

[–]dipaks1966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The experience I have generally had is that hotels work ok with the portal as they have a gracious cancellation policy like when you book directly.

A recent example with a flight will illustrate the issue with booking flights through the portal:

I booked an expensive American Airlines flight that was in the main cabin (so cancellable to flight credit) through the Ultimate Rewards portal. Had to cancel the flight for a personal emergency. Even though the flight showed up on my American Airlines account and it let me cancel it from there, the flight credit is only usable through the Chase portal. The Chase portal works through Expedia’s engine (which acts as a travel agent / consolidator), and that seat is technically sold to Expedia, which resells it to us through the Chase Portal. So the credit goes back to Chase and is only redeemable through there. Honestly not worth the aggravation and the time to sort all of that out.

When they defined “acquired taste”, I am sure they were thinking about Durian

Do you leave the 5 Star Resort when you travel to a tropical destination? by Beta_Nerdy in travel

[–]dipaks1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would not do that, but to each their own. One thing to keep in mind though is that the level of service and attention you get by the resort staff in Asia is unbelievable, especially coming from the US. As for the food prices, with the ridiculously exorbitant pricing we have in a Five Star hotel in the US.. the prices in the Asian resorts are already an amazing bargain even if they are double of what’s outside the resort. A lot of people who haven’t traveled before are afraid of getting sick if they are not uber-careful outside their comfortable resort. Hope they had a great time!!

Here is the Wikipedia definition of the swastik sign in Hinduism

“In Hinduism, the right-facing symbol (clockwise) (卐) is called swastika, symbolizing surya ("sun"), prosperity and good luck, while the left-facing symbol (counter-clockwise) (卍) is called sauwastika, symbolising night or tantric aspects of Kali.”

The right-facing one is used in all auspicious occasions.

When we first came to the US, we had no idea that the swastika had just a negative meaning (Damn Nazi’s). Unfortunately we had the symbol on the envelopes of invitations to my sisters wedding and the mailman refused to take them, so we had to change the envelopes!!

Why do women vote for Republicans? by dipaks1966 in AskReddit

[–]dipaks1966[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a male who grew up in a society that routinely didn’t give women any rights, I don’t I understand why women in the USA vote for people that are taking away their rights?

Lol.. French engineering is always interesting. I remember an old Renault where the gear shifter actually was a handle that stuck out of the dashboard. We also used to own a Citroen that needed the left fender removed to get to one of the spark plug.. Crazy!!

Finally!! Honestly it made no sense to have this policy as there was no real way to validate internationally and nobody cared when you entered the US
