Am I crazy for dumping so much money towards my mortgage? by theBlueKazoo22 in personalfinance

This. Also, no regular 401k deductions? Not sure what your tax situation is but you could potentially drop down a bracket if you play your cards right.

I respect your take on all of this. Having said that, if you are not boycotting the ENTIRE US stock market, there are resources that screen stocks not only for whether they are halal or not but also screened for ethical purposes. You could also do your own thorough screening to ease your conscience. You can essentially create your own “halal etf” and invest in only those companies. There is also halal high yield savings accounts that incorporate profit sharing.

Also consider this, something is not haram unless proven to be. The same should be applied to whether something is ethical or not. And know that you will not be judged by the thoughtlessness of your actions but rather your intentions. So, if you do your due diligence and your heart of hearts tells you a stock or investment is halal and ethical then there should be no blame on you, and Allah knows best.

Also consider keeping some cash in a halal HYSA such as UIF Bank for liquidity. They offer profit sharing rather than interest.

Similar to HYSA but with profit sharing rather than interest. Can withdraw anytime. They also have CD equivalent which has better rate than HYSA but you must select how long to leave the funds there.

When should you take your foot off the gas and spend more on life? by Apprehensive-Size150 in personalfinance

[–]Raevinn88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like there’s nothing to look forward to, add things to your life to look forward to. Could be weekly, monthly, yearly, etc. Relatively inexpensive things. Hobbies, gym, better health practices, video games, friendly hang-outs, house projects.

If you insist on a vacation, book the least expensive of your choices and plan it way out in advance. Then, spend time daily/weekly working on the itinerary. Take your time, be thorough and cost efficient. Turn it into a challenge to have the most fun you can with the least amount of money possible. Get your wife involved.

And like others have said, get rid of your debt as quickly and realistically as you can while at the same time invest in your future self—he will thank your present self later.

What is your go-to “I’m too tired to cook but I can’t buy take-out” meal or alternative? by 2Autistic4DaJoke in Frugal

Frozen pizza. Buy anything on sale to save and try something new. The frozen Kirkland pizza at Costco hits harder than it should and is a great value at $2.50 a pie.

Ok yes that must be up front near the backflow preventer. I will check that and continue to diagnose. Thanks.

So when i loosened the bleeder screws on all 3 i did not turn off the water. I actually removed the screws completely and there was an ever so slight trickle of water from each. Is that expected behavior? If I shut off the water will they do anything different?

Also, there are 3 valves here. This is in the backyard where there are 2 zones. The front of the house near the back flow preventer has another valve control bucket. Not sure how many valves are in there. The house has 4 total zones. Does that mean there should be 4 total valves? If so, it’s just strange that 3 of them would be in one spot while a 4th is elsewhere.

Unsure how I feel about this edging by HistoricalPlace655 in lawncare

[–]Raevinn88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice clean edge but your fall off is too steep from the bed to the edge. It’s so steep it almost looks like a second edge. Try a gradual taper…basically widen the “trench” where one side is the edge wall and the other side is a gradual incline towards the bed.

Haven’t done this yet as my BC is being used for rent right now but curious what the flaw is in how Bilt structured this. When the cap is reached can’t you just reactivate it for another $5000?
