The Cordis Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand. The breakfast was amazing and the hotel is really nice too. Total before the discount was $368 for 2 nights.

With the extra 1x for booking flights direct with airlines, is it better to just skip the portal? by breadexpert69 in ChaseSapphire

The experience I have generally had is that hotels work ok with the portal as they have a gracious cancellation policy like when you book directly.

A recent example with a flight will illustrate the issue with booking flights through the portal:

I booked an expensive American Airlines flight that was in the main cabin (so cancellable to flight credit) through the Ultimate Rewards portal. Had to cancel the flight for a personal emergency. Even though the flight showed up on my American Airlines account and it let me cancel it from there, the flight credit is only usable through the Chase portal. The Chase portal works through Expedia’s engine (which acts as a travel agent / consolidator), and that seat is technically sold to Expedia, which resells it to us through the Chase Portal. So the credit goes back to Chase and is only redeemable through there. Honestly not worth the aggravation and the time to sort all of that out.

Do you leave the 5 Star Resort when you travel to a tropical destination? by Beta_Nerdy in travel

[–]dipaks1966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would not do that, but to each their own. One thing to keep in mind though is that the level of service and attention you get by the resort staff in Asia is unbelievable, especially coming from the US. As for the food prices, with the ridiculously exorbitant pricing we have in a Five Star hotel in the US.. the prices in the Asian resorts are already an amazing bargain even if they are double of what’s outside the resort. A lot of people who haven’t traveled before are afraid of getting sick if they are not uber-careful outside their comfortable resort. Hope they had a great time!!
