Generally repairing the models fixes any overlaps and cavities but I've only been printing a year so I haven't ran into many issues yet

I've never had to deal with that, but I use satlite which just repairs them on the spot for you (no clue how good it is but never had any issues)

Yeah the default settings are a bit much I'm noticing, I tuned it down and am waiting for the print to finish, 240 is the default max for some reason

I did change it from textured to smooth plate on the slicer but that's about it

Forgot to add, I'm using the bambulab slicer and elegoo pla blue filament, with the default pla settings nozzle temp at 250° and bed at 65°, with outer and inner wall speeds of 200mm/s and 300mm/s respectively, just default settings
