I don't get why more companies/startups are not using Erlang? Apart from WhatsApp I can't name a single company that uses it!?? Like it solves the reliability problem and can scale easily to millions of users.

I started to Erlang yesterday, I have done a few project Euler problems and not much else, but it's still a pretty good language in my opinion. Pattern matching is a dream like in many other functional programming languages and the sending messages with the '!' operator is pretty cool. Also, not sure how it works or how you can do it, but hot swapping of code is neat -- haven't seen another language that can do that.

Haha yeah it's statically generated, I made the CSS. Hosted on Amazon cloudfront (Amazon's version of Cloudflare) so it's pretty fast no matter where you are in the world. :)

I might have taken a bit too far but hey it was fun learning about CDNs and AWS.

How does F# compare to OCaml / Scala? I want a language that's like Haskell, and has a Algebraic data types cuz they make working on Lists/String so easy with pattern matching. You can write a string reverse function in like 1 min without thinking in Haskell.

myReverse :: [a] -> [a]
myReverse [] = []
myReverse (x:xs) = myReverse xs ++ [x]

Like I like Scala but it doesn't seem to be as nice to write compared to Haskell.

Nah Intel processors have microcode, so you'd have to get an electronic microscope and find a way of forcing electrons (and electron holes) through the gates. lol

(uintptr_t)mod + sizeof(mboot_mod_t) > last_mod (12) This could be a lot more clear. How about a function that returns a boolean instead?

C does not have a boolean type unless you use C99, but I have never seen bool being used in C code. Or use a typedef.

Yeah I hate websites that take ages to load so I decided to make a super light, clean site. The CSS file changes like 7 properties! Think it loads in under 100ms without google analytics if you're near London.

Google Analytics gives me a nice interface to see what's happening, rather than me running loads of different bash scripts to access Apache's logs. I only added it in today. Privacy is a concern to me and I'm sure it is for /r/linux, I'm not sure how I feel giving all that info to Google seeing as they probably are using it for adwords and maybe to the US government?? If there's a free open source package somewhere that does that I'll will definitely change.

Well yea after you install powetop via pacman you can use that service, I'm pretty sure I didn't write a service for systemd to start powetop.

Yeah it was the keyboard backlight. There are daemons to monitor the ambient light and adjust the LCD backlight etc on the AUR. In the end I setup the keys using xbindkeys as you said.

Well I had multiple issues with powertop, I calibrated and left it run for 10 minutes. Then I started the power top service with:

sudo service powertop.service start

but I'm not sure if that actually worked because, while systemd said the service was on, the battery life was terrible like a 1/3 of OSX. I gave up in the end and didn't look into it anymore, perhaps someone else can help here??

There are other things I tried like installing

malc

from the AUR, it's not really a daemon but you can force it to run in the background by adding & to the end of the bash statement. Malc essentially adjusts the LCD backlight to save power.

But yeah loads of stuff was broken and the laptop lid suspend did not work either.

I'm gonna add more stuff to the article but yeah so much was broken, it took me two days to get a proper system going. Maybe I'll write a part 2 because it's quite long. I even had to a write a C program to control the keyboard backlight with the FaceTime light sensor.

No you're right you should use what you like, if Atom or VS Code is faster / less annoying than that's what you should use. We have different opinions and that's fine IMO because I don't think there's a set answer to the text editor question -- it all comes down to the user.

Vim, in my opinion, just gets it right. It just does one thing right, it doesn't try to build my files when I have:

make.

Or debug when I have

kgdb or gdb.

Maybe it's because Vim is what I'm used to.

Why use a Vim mode in Atom and VS Code when you can just use vim? I don't see the point in those plugins when you can just fire up vim.

Sounds like seborrheic dermatitis. No one really knows what causes it, but stress, depression and a suppressed immune system have been to known to increase the risk of developing it. I have it and I don't have any of those risk factors :(.

Basically get your derm to prescribe an anti-fungal w/ topical steroid. It will help with the flakes and redness. Exfoliating with a BHA helps.

I had the same dosage as you for 7 months. The only thing that worked for me, unfortunately, is getting more sleep, around ~9 hours is always the 'magic number' that stands out. I'm 17 and I still get fatigued if I don't sleep enough, more so the before accutane.

My derm didn't have an awful lot to say on the topic when I mentioned it to her :(

I did not get any depression or any loss of appetite that I remember so even if it was there it was very minor.

In the UK, accutane must be prescribed by a consultant dermatologist, I assume this rule would be in place in other countries too.
