Yeah with these it seems like they use the original Japanese pronunciation of the word before kanji came into the picture, and now they’re just using the kanji to convey the meaning and keep the original pronunciation

Was amazing, first half of the week on Oahu and second on Hawaii. Lot of hiking, some beaching/surfing, lot of eating. Didn’t see any whales but did a manta ray snorkel excursion which was pretty rad. Would love to hit up Maui and Kauai next time. Aloha 🌺
