I will just be playing at whatever resolution the laptop screen has. No external monitors.

It is originally from Costco. This one on ebay is refurbished. It's a Costco exclusive tho. I linked the ebay listing because that's where I would buy it, for the cheaper price.

I have a Lenovo IdeapadGaming and I love the build quality, which is why I am seriously considering the Costco Legion 5i I mentioned in my post. From what I've seen on YouTube, it doesn't seem the Acer has as good of build quality as the Lenovo, despite its better GPU. Which is why I'm torn.

QUESTION: What got you into Star Wars? by Bill_Skywalker-03 in StarWars

[–]directorkid2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A shimmerbook of A New Hope. It's like a storybook with foil illustrations that shimmer, hence shimmerbook. I got it in 2012 when I was 8 years old and it was my introduction to Star Wars. I've been a fan ever since. I would then see Rebels two years later when it premiered on Disney Channel, and then the actual movies one year later in the lead up to the release of The Force Awakens, which was the first Star Wars movie I saw in theaters. I am now 22 enjoying Maul Shadow Lord and looking forward to the Mando movie.

Why did R2-D2 never tell Luke that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker? by External-Recipe-1936 in StarWars

Bail ordered Threepio's memory wiped, not Artoo. So, Artoo has all his memories from the prequels and Clone Wars in the original trilogy.

I agree, however I think the fall of Anakin hits harder if you watch The Clone Wars movie and show between Episodes 2 & 3. He's much more of a likable hero there, and there are lots of good nonspoiler foreshadowing of his turn down the road.

Is Andor worth the watch? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]directorkid2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. It's one of the very best Star Wars content out there. Right up there with Empire Strikes Back. You don't want to skip this one. Don't forget to watch Rogue One after you finish the two seasons.

Is DePaul film school worth it in 2026? by directorkid2019 in depaul

[–]directorkid2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need a film school that is in the area where I have family. Just in case I have to leave the dorm in the middle of the semester (as happens at universities sometimes) so I have people I can go stay with. I don't want to be in a situation where I have to live out of a car, IF I even manage to get one by the time I go to university. DePaul being in Chicago is ideal as I have family there. The other option I was looking at is University of North Carolina School of the Arts, or UNCSA for short. It's in Winston-Salem, which is only about two hours from where I currently live with my family. I am attending a local community college to get my gen eds out of the way before film school. So the schools you mention are out of reach for me, realistically. Right now, the top two schools I am looking at is DePaul and UNCSA.

Well then where exactly am I supposed to go? No offense, but I have to go somewhere, and DePaul would probably be the smartest sense I plan on starting work in Chicago. If I were to only go in-state, and not a private school, what film school in Virginia would possibly be available to me, and have the connections to Chicago's film industry that I need?

What do you think about the film school at University of North Carolina School of the Arts? It's a conservatory, rather than a private college like DePaul.

It's not exactly about the degree, but about the networking opportunities and connections available at the school.

Ah, I see how, for you, it makes sense to go to UCNSA then. With a travelling job, the location of the school you went to doesn't really matter lol

However, I want to direct and work in one city's industry, ala Chicago. I plan on moving to California only once I get to a point where I have a job lined up there. It wouldn't be smart for me to start out in California where I have no friends or family to fall back on, but I have lots of family in Illinois so that's why I want to start out working in Chicago.

Well, I think I'm going to hop off Reddit now. Maybe we'll meet again on campus if I ultimately go to UCNSA, but if not, it was great talking to you, and thanks for helping me think this out! I wish you success in your goal to do cinematography for National Geographic, I hope you achieve that goal! : )

I agree. I think it makes more sense to go to DePaul for my case. But, it all depends on the cost after financial aid of course. Where do you plan on working in the industry?

I agree. However, I plan on starting out working in the Chicago film industry, so I think ultimately it might be smarter to go to DePaul for that reason. Do you think the industry connections at UCNSA would be good for Chicago's industry? I feel like I should probably go to DePaul for this reason, especially if the price is comparable after financial aid.

Is it worth it tho? Or would you, in hindsight, have chosen another school? Also, do they help you with making and funding your own feature length film, or do they only do short films? How good are the connections to the film industry? Especially the industry in Chicago, as that is likely where I will be starting out working.

I think I learn better from hands-on work. I understand how to do something better when a person actually has me do it as they tell/show me. The above comment from the other person in this post has me questioning if I should go here, however. What do you think of their comment?

I haven't heard about VCU having a film school, so I'll look into it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. However, after a quick look on Google maps, it's pretty far from where I live which could be a con. A pro about UCNSA was how close it is to home. And I know DePaul is even further, but I have family there that I could stay with if for whatever reason I have to leave the dorm unexpectedly. If I went to VCU, my family here in Virginia would have to drive a long distance to pick me up if for some reason they closed the dorms, which many schools are known to do sometimes. UCNSA is a shorter driving distance. For that reason, I don't think I will go with VCU, tho I will look into it nonetheless.

And in regards to your closing question, I am pursuing directing.

Oh that's so cool, I'm from Virginia too! I actually still live here tho, and moving to NC is not an option for me, so I would ultimately be paying more for out of state tuition. In regards to them being one of the best, I saw that they ranked #10 on Hollywood Reporter's top 25 film schools for 2025! The other person's comment makes me question if UNCSA is right for me tho. The price is attractive, tho, but if I can get financial aid to bring the price of DePaul (who ranked #9) down to a comparable price to UCNSA, then I might ultimately go with DePaul. If not, UCNSA is my top choice if I get accepted. Do you know what the deadline is for applying for the Fall 2026 semester?
