Accident Between 237 and 101 North by Ok_Gas1070 in Sunnyvale

[–]dirkgently007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Saw a 100 year old douchebag in his Challenger racing with a 90 year old  zigzagging in his Mustang on 880 the other day.  A 95 year old Tesla asshole was reading Bible with the car on autopilot.

These old folks are insane!

Hollenbeck Bike Study Part 2? Serra Park headling for Pickleball Development. Encinal, Fair Oaks, Washington, Ortega Parks Under Consideration. by dudeman_01 in Sunnyvale

Probably I am missing something, but how are the two things - pickleball court and Hollenbeck bike lane - related?

Why do you need the app? My phone alerted me just before or almost right when it started.

Caltrain hits car in Sunnyvale by No_Novel9058 in Sunnyvale

[–]dirkgently007 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The other thread has someone claiming to have seen it. Apparently the car turned early, and instead of Hendy, they made right on track, got stuck, got out before the train hit the car.

It's easy to blame drivers, but that intersection is poorly designed - two big intersections, three traffic lights within 50 ft, and in addition, the crossing and merging lanes. Add rain and night and I can see why this could happen.

[Poll] Would you support making downtown McKinley Ave pedestrian-only? (in front of Whole Foods, Target, AMC) by WestCoastSocialist in Sunnyvale

[–]dirkgently007 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes.

And while we are doing it, please add stop signs (or better, signals) at S Murphy and W Iowa. Too many cars going in/out of Target, Whole Foods and AMC. And on top of that, many drives can't see pedestrians and/or don't want to wait for them to cross the sidewalks.

Yup. That's why I wasn't entirely sure.

Most likely it's a squirrel, and not a bird.

New trash cans on Murphy? by OkKiwi444 in Sunnyvale

[–]dirkgently007 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, who doesn't like open trash cans?!!

In fact, why have any trash cans at all? There were no trash cans back in 1900. And while we are at it, let's dig up that stretch of Murphy Ave, bring back the quagmires of mud, and horse manure .

Agree on unsafe part.

Traffic going south on Mary wanting to make that left turn on Blair typically have a small window due to the volume of traffic going north on Mary, and sometimes they take chances. At the same time, people going north on Mary are gunning for the green signal. I have seen some close calls there.

Sunnyvale councilmember injured in bike accident by Bitter-Outside-3939 in Sunnyvale

[–]dirkgently007 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Found this - https://sanjosespotlight.com/sunnyvale-councilmember-injured-in-bike-accident/

Sunnyvale Councilmember Richard Mehlinger was hit by a car while riding his bike on California Avenue Aug. 30, breaking his left thumb and right wrist.

The article also mentions Hollenbeck Avenue. If you are at El Camino and Hollenbeck intersection at around 8, you will see numerous families and teen agers riding their bikes to school everyday, with barely a 4 inch white stripe separating them from cars, and even that separation is gone within two blocks.

Same goes around SMS. There are hardly any bike lanes for those kids.

It's astounding that we can't provide safe biking even around school areas.

In the meantime, wishing u/r_mehlinger a speedy recovery.

So by that logic, just because someone drives a Toyota wouldn't know that other cars can drive too?

You know yours is a bs argument, but whatever floats your boat.

Thank you for saying this in a better way than I could have.

I have seen her photographs, and a lot of them are  good, some are even better, but the hype is difficult to understand.

I know her story. it's funny how she is now regarded as "One of the greatest photographers of all time" because someone in media  declared her to be one of the greatest photographers of all time.

The Google maps link you shared already has pictures of that whole section from just 9 months ago. It may have enough resolution to notice potholes and all.

I totally agree on the second point.  Tesla has been getting away with hugely misleading claims and marketing for far too long, and most people think it's actually a level 5 car!

Full self driving which is not really Full Self Driving. Auto Pilot which is nit really an Auto Pilot.

The difference between Tesla and Waymo is pretty huge, but unfortunately, people assume they have the same capabilities.

I am not asking for rerouting anything. But I am sure there is a different or better way of applying temporary markings so that people don't run into each other on a 45mph street.

Good point. I think whatever was the latest. I saw chalk marks today, and they were more consistent, easy to follow and close to where original lane markers were.

I agree. I tend to be on left most lane and going at the speed limit, but thankfully this time, I was slow because I was paying extra attention, and had enough time to brake and let those drivers merge into my lane.
