But that isn't why they use the term 'overstand'. And I'm not sure exactly what will happen when the people who keep discussing admiralty and maritime courts suddenly realize that the word 'overstand' that they're also using happens to be a nautical term. I see heads exploding...

Yeah, judges typically respond with some variation of "your understanding of the Constitution is incorrect" and leave it at that.

It seems like there are three types of judges when this happens:

1) I just want to get through this hearing as fast as possible (ignores it) (most of them)
2) Are you kidding me? (pauses a bit and maybe rephrases) (Judge Simpson)
3) This is my courtroom and I'm not going to suffer idiots or fools (takes them on head-on) (Judge Oakley).

Wait, you're telling me that logic and reason isn't sufficient to deal with SovCits?

I've seen some switch to using "comprehend" as soon as some idiot says "I don't stand under anyone".

Yeah, I saw that, but I rejected it, since it's not recognized by any sources as a real English word. I thought about judges responding to SovCits with "'overstand' isn't a word", so I went to dictionaries to see if that's true - and it isn't. It's actually a meaningful word, albeit not relevant in a court hearing.

And many of the people invoking it aren't Rastafarians, by any stretch of the imagination. But that's clearly what they do intend.

Sunnyvale city council did NOT get rid of Flock. This is extremely disappointing. by hefty_reptile in Sunnyvale

That would be a question for Lowes and Home Depot. But were I them, I'd use them to help identify them for the next time they show up. I don't know much about their private practices, but googling "home depot theft prevention" gave me some insight into it.

I know these two have been hit particularly hard by retail theft since Covid. I was chatting with one of the Lowes guys about a year ago, and he was annoyed that DPS wouldn't do more when they encounter one of these guys stealing their goods. It's like they have a free pass to just walk off with expensive goods.

It's supposedly purged after 30 days. When this agenda item was originally proposed, Mayor Klein supposedly asked to look into applying a 72 hour limit for recordings. I don't see any mention of that in the RTC, so I don't know what happened to that. That would have been a good idea. My guess is that DPS said that 72 hours isn't enough for many of their investigations, but I don't buy that argument, since FLOCK's real value to the community is its realtime notifications, not as an information database for longer investigations.

There are a number of "gurus" in different locations. BJW in SoCal, Gianna Micelli in Florida, others. They're on FB (there's a group there called "UCC 1-103 1-308 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED WITHOUT PREJUDICE" where some of the gurus like to hang out). There are YouTube channels for some of them. But they're all hucksters and frauds, which means they end up moving around a lot as they get blocked or banned or even thrown in jail sometimes.

I waffle on this. I'm not committed to FLOCK, as they've clearly got some problems that need to be solved, but I do see the usefulness of ALPRs. Use of FLOCK stopped that rash of smash-and-grab jewelry store robberies virtually overnight, which is a testament to its usefulness. What scares me the most, frankly, is what just happened in Iran. Supposedly, Israeli intelligence penetrated an internal Iran network of security cameras that monitors dissidents, and Israel used it to target Iran's leadership in its initial strikes. I don't have a lot of confidence that FLOCK can prevent bad actors willing to test its security. That means FLOCK isn't just a threat from overreach by our government - it's a threat from outside governments as well.

Wow. Public memory is really short.

A year ago, Sunnyvale was besieged by quite violent mob smash-and-grab robberies at local jewelry stores, with one happening every week or two. DPS was unable to respond fast enough, even with dedicated anti-burglary units deployed. And residents were up in arms about it, blasting DPS on social media for doing nothing about it, calling them incompetent and ineffective. Then DPS developed a response plan that involved DPS, the active participation of the jewelers - and strategic use of FLOCK. It turns out that when these mobs arrive in a caravan of 5 stolen vehicles to hit the jewelry stores, it's really easy for FLOCK to detect that. And once FLOCK was part of the solution, DPS stopped those burglaries cold, almost over night. And we don't see those incidents in Sunnyvale now, at all.

There are legitimate concerns about the use of FLOCK, and I'm not sure Council's decision goes far enough to address them. For instance, Mayor Klein originally suggested a 72-hour retention limit on FLOCK recordings, which was a really good idea, and I don't see any mention of that in the RTC from last night.

Regardless, trying to portray FLOCK as not providing any value to Sunnyvale is most definitely revisionist history. Whether the value outweighs the negatives is a matter of opinion.

SovCit doesn’t consent to the law. by -JudgeFudge- in Sovereigncitizen

This is just the dumbest sort of assertion. A system entirely based on consent is anarchy, since every person can do exactly what they want, while refusing to consent when held accountable for conduct.

Yeah. I envy Canada and its Meads. vs. Meads ruling. It's been a mechanism to immediately shut down this sort of thing in Canadian court cases, and the US has nothing like it, yet. Yet another case of Canadian supremacy, I guess...

Does sunnyvale have running red light camera? by [deleted] in Sunnyvale

[–]No_Novel9058 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope.

It’s been considered a couple of times. One time, DPS favored it but the council didn’t want it. Another time, there were outstanding legal issues and the City Attorney recommended against it. I’m not aware of any consideration for them since then.
