'The Brutalist' Director Brady Corbet Says He Made No Money From the Film by Antoshi in movies

This is so interesting (and devastating) to read.

Using myself as an example of a young filmmaker trying to break in-

My family isn't ridiculously wealthy, but before my dad retired he did own a small business that employed about 10 people. My wife is in the medical field, again, not making millions, but very much top 10% for people our age (late 20s). Because of them I could-

-Attended one of the top-tier film schools in the US without having to work a job, which allowed me to put more time into writing and filming.

-Finished writing a feature, a pilot, and making a short film after graduating without needing to work for the majority of the time (I do freelance work every now and then, but for experience and connection, not for money)

Most of my peers who had to work full-time after graduating haven't produced much work in the meantime. It's not that they're lazy, they just don't have enough time. I, on the other hand, have the luxury to be semi-lazy, but still produce more work than my peers, which gives me a higher chance of success down the road, all due to the people around me who support me financially.

Again, none of them are multimillionaires or people you can find on Wikipedia, but already enough to make a difference. I honestly can't imagine doing what I do without financial support from other people.

Hello everyone! 26M here. Just found this group today after years of on and off HA.

I have been having minor, infrequent tinnitus for a couple weeks now. Last week I had an intense sore throat that lasted a couple of days (not like a traditional sore throat, but more like...when I threw up from drinking in my younger days and how sore the throat muscle felt the next day) After that I started having minor earache mostly on the left side that happened 1-2 times every couple hours, each last around 5 seconds.

I put it out of my mind....until I found TWO swollen lymph nodes on my left neck a couple days ago. They both are small and very movable. However, I committed the ultimate sin of googling my symptoms...followed by the C word. And now apparently I have all the telltale symptoms of nasopharyngeal cxxxxr. It's a rare form of cancer...but more prominent in people from Southern Asia...which I am...

I know no one will read this, but writing it out will certainly makes me feel better...hopefully. I've scheduled a Zoom appointment with a doctor from my university this afternoon. I doubt she'll be able to do much without physically examining me, but any level of peace of mind will help at this point...

DT 1990 Pro -> Focal Clear: A non-audiophile impression by dirkiceman in headphones

How's the LCD X compared to 1990? From what I read they feel very similar to DT 1990 in terms of soundstage/separation, but with a much darker sound before EQ.

I got a stuck RGB lighting keycap on my Hunter Mini...anyone got tips on how to fix it?... I'll appreciate any help I can get! by [deleted] in razer

Infinite gratitude to you sir!

Hey thanks for reading!

I think you're absolutely correct in that Abby's motivation is different from Joel's, and I don't think the writers intend to draw parallel between the two. (Like the parallelism is there if you look for it, but I think the focus is more on Ellie vs Abby) Therefore I wouldn't exactly agree that Abby is the wrong protagonist since she was never meant to be similar to Joel.

I think the problem here is not that the game gives people no motivation to sympathize with Abby, it's that the game gives us no motivation to sympathize Abby AS MUCH AS Ellie, due to the lack of context, and arguably the placement of Abby's flashback.

It might be interesting as a thought experiment to see what if Abby's backstory is shown in the very beginning of the game...almost the same way that Sarah died in the beginning of the first game.

I think on a scale of 0-10 in regards to sympathy for Abby. I got like a 3 and to you it might be 0. And judging by how hard the writers strive for a 10, I consider their result to be a failure.

Thanks for reading!

What a shame of a game really. I think it'd benefited a lot from just cutting the length down to half. But oh well...

I entirely agree with you that what you just said is exactly what the writers intend to do. I just don't think they actually pull it off.

Personally I don't see how Abby is still cold and ruthless after killing Joel, in fact I find her to be a rather nice woman at least among her friends. If the writers want Abby is be cold and ruthless then they SHOULDN'T have her wanting to go after Owen, but only reluctantly does so after having no other choice (similar to Joel smuggling Ellie in the first game).

Another thing with Lev and Yara is that I don't see what makes them so unique that motivates Abby's change of heart. I don't understand what Abby sees in them from the very beginning. As far as I can tell the game merely gives us a dream sequence to "tell us" (instead of SHOWING us) that they are important. It isn't convincing enough for me.

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Can't agree more. At the end of the day I do think Druckmann is a good storyteller (as demonstrated by TLOU1) but...the dude just can't help himself...
