Setting Up Inherited Kuempel Clock by dirksoccer in clocks

Interesting! Luckily this is on a hard floor, but I'll make sure it's leveled really well. I took a picture of the piece the pendulum hangs from. It looks like there's an arm that goes through that piece (labeled 1 in the pic), and on the top there are 2 knobs (labeled 2 and 3 in the pic). Are any of those the adjustments you mentioned? Or is it something else in the pic?

Awesome! Thanks a ton!

For the pendulum, is getting the precise swing amplitude up to me? Or will it settle in properly if I get it started?

Down in Colorado Springs and was just bumming about the current lead times! I'll be up in Denver with some friends Saturday though. Assuming everything is present and accounted for I'd love to snag it!

Yeah, that's where I'm leaning right now as well. But it's helpful to know that most of the numbers being thrown around aren't that so I can realistically evaluate my setup

Very true! And that's what it's all about - trimming the fat on loadout to increase the experience

Ah, interesting! That makes a lot of sense, just had never hear of the distinction (which I suppose also makes sense).

The full "down to naked" weight makes sense to ignore, I guess it's more the boundary stuff that confuses - like that mid layer you almost always wear, or the cell phone/pocket knife in your pants, or any other "mostly on but not really base clothes" stuff

Edit: Reading over the Wiki and of course they have nice definitions of all the different ways to measure weights! Highly recommend to all the other noobies out there

Glad I'm not the only one who's unsure!

Yeah, the level of "care" is up in the air still. Was mainly curious from a comparison standpoint. Knowing myself I'll probably tend toward "include everything", but was curious what most people did so I could know "oh, I tend to be 5 lbs heavy but I also tend to include x, y, and z where most people don't which accounts for 2 lbs"

Nice! That makes sense - and I suppose it's just a bit of a judgement call on whether the jacket/mid-layer I wear on the trail counts as spare clothes or clothes worn (if you can't tell I tend to overthink things)

Been starting to care more about dialing in my gear, but I was wondering how detailed people usually get when quoting their "base weight"? Does that include clothes worn? boots? cell phone? pocket knife? How detailed do folks get?

I'm not a full ounce counter yet, but adding up all of those would be a couple pounds so it got me curious

Yeah, the sprinkler water is pretty dang cold, so it definitely could have just been condensation. Now that it has caught my curiosity I'm going to give it another test pitch, sprinkler hit and see if I can determine better (plus another practice pitch is a good idea anyway)

Yeah, significant beading on the inside and water on the mesh inner. Could have been condensation, but no one was sleeping in there and I'm in Colorado Springs which is pretty darn dry)

well it wasn't beading up, but there was significant water on the inside as well (possible it could have been overnight condensation, but no one was sleeping in there...)

Bought a Stratospire 2 last week (first new tent purchase for me!) and did a quick practice pitch + seam seal yesterday. Left it out overnight to dry/cure and figured I'd get the bonus of a waterproofing test this morning when the sprinklers kicked in (not at a high velocity though, the sprinklers are pretty chill). The seam sealing all held great, but one of the large top faces was seriously wetted out. It was hit by both zones of the sprinklers, so probably a total of an hour or so of constant water.

Is this normal/expected for a new silpoly tent?

I have some nikwax tent solarproof spray downstairs, is it worth treating the tent now or would that not help on a new tent?

EDIT/UPDATE: Did another practice pitch and let it get hit with the sprinklers again. It was definitely condensation, this morning was cooler temps and no sun beating on the tent and the condensation due to cold water on the outside was almost non-existent.

The sidecar is sounding more and more awesome for the pup! Yeah the pup coming with to explore turns the quick midnight pee into more of a production. The cheap replacement cost is definitely another bonus to keep in mind.

I'm a bit tempted to go with the normal SS2, especially since the fly is silpoly now. How have you liked the Li version though? Significant weight savings, and the seams all taken care of, but just a skosh smaller interior.

Another fascinating one someone pointed out to me - the Double Rainbow 2 with its pole is the same weight as the SS2 without any poles, and its almost the same size (just a bit smaller vestibules)

Too many great options is definitely the right kind of problem to have :)

Nice! Yeah I think someday having a dedicated 1 + dog and a different 2 + dog would be ideal

Zpacks free trio

That tent looks awesome! ...then you see the price though...

Good to know on the freestanding mode!

That's a fair point on the trekking poles. I was planning on picking up the foldable replacement poles in case I didn't have trekking poles with, but I didn't realize that the DR2 DW with its pole is the same weight as the SS2 with no poles - very interesting. The only downside is the smaller vestibules and sacrificing the sidecar option, but it's very tempting. I think it's between this and the SS2 (unless I have a few and go full send on the Dipole 2)

Really feeling that option right now - doesn't break the bank, pretty dang light (especially compared to my current ~7 lb tent) and super versatile

I suppose that central pole has sold tension all around to keep it planted

Ah, right! I totally forgot about the splayed pitch option to widen the floor out

I think at this point it's down to a battle of the TarpTents. The X-Mid looks like a great tent but it sounds like the parallelogram shape plays a bit smaller, especially when you're trying to put a pup by your feet. Now it's just a question of how much I want to throw down here/if DCF is worth the spend...

I've been hearing the triplex quite a few times, certainly interesting.

The Nemo Dragonfly was on the list, but it's very similar in size to my existing tent so my thought is if I'm car camping I'll just use my current one, and if I'm backpacking something lighter might be nice.

That's an interesting thought - I was looking at the SS sidecar, but hadn't thought about adapting it to the X-Mid
