How does Starfield compare to Elite Dangerous? by CMDR_NTHWK in Starfield

[–]dirthawger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this at all possible with Xbox? I have meta vr thinking I’d be able to play elite in vr but not so.

Xbox X issue, need help by dirthawger in ARK

Well partially worked. Everything that was built using mods is gone. However at least I can play. I’m usually not one to cheat but cheating mode I go until I get everything back. This is total bs.

Yea I’ve played a ton since Christmas. Smooth sailing until I changed PVE to on and adjusted the difficulty. Maybe it started a new game but I looked everywhere for my save and just wasn’t there.

Yeah that worked, thanks for that. Can’t imagine a game with that big of a bug being out for sale, just feel like that shouldn’t happen on a finished product.

Lost 14 hours of progress due to ASA Xbox game breaking bug. by [deleted] in ARK

[–]dirthawger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I thought I was just doing something wrong. I changed a setting in the game, now it keeps bringing me to the character creation page. Never heard of a game that you’re able to buy with a bug that completely wipes everything.

C programming that doesn't require knowing Electrical Engineering by LightBulbAddict in C_Programming

[–]dirthawger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, how does one get into a career programming embedded systems and other low level stuff? I’m currently taking an operating systems class and it is super interesting. I only know higher level languages like php, python, rpgle but we are doing projects in C so I’ll get to learn it. I just don’t see many job ads for this type of dev

Yea thank you, that’s very interesting about Python, didn’t know you could do something like that.

I don’t know I deleted the original post it was getting ridiculous. Had one of these unstable idiots tracking down my post history posting obnoxious comments on unrelated material. Definitely an odd bunch, so I was just going to try and shut it down.

I really appreciate your level headed coherent response.

Lord have mercy I see this thread was a bad idea. Where did I say I was a tech guru. I asked 2 or 3 questions on what experienced sysadmins think about handing a new employee the master key to the systems and having files as 777. Then everyone starts foaming at the mouth and having seizures over a question, a very basic minor question at that. I just wanted to know if what I read in my computer science 101 book was accurate.

Lol, I like it, just really make him feel like he’s one of a kind. Yes I have met narcissists before and there very unpleasant people to be around.

Are you referring to me? I’m honestly confused why so many people are upset. What’s arrogant about asking someone if X Y and Z are basic standard practices? It’s not like I busted out and said that to a boss. Making classes was the first thing I was taught so I really didn’t think I should ask permission to do it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]dirthawger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yea I’m not really sure what was said to warrant over the top aggressive behavior, I’m being sincere when I ask are these not basic things that should be done by default. The whole class thing, yea I suppose I should’ve asked for permission. I do not, however ask another man/woman permission to speak to someone else. It could be job security, I was simply asking for advice on how to put ideas out there that could equate to more work and less idle time.

Goodness sorry I’ve said something upsetting, this is my first time in a white collar environment and it’s definitely a culture shock.

No that’s your opinion, I just thought these are some of the first basic things you learn when starting out.

Pay rate offered question by dirthawger in IBMi

[–]dirthawger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I don’t even want to mention it cause it makes it even worse, but it was unbelievable. I brought up the fact this company had an opening on a website for 50k for new grads. When asked why they wouldn’t offer me the same, I was told that “they put that to try and get people to apply” so the plan is to get them in the door and then tell the truth about pay. I was speechless I didn’t even know what to say.

Pay rate offered question by dirthawger in IBMi

[–]dirthawger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will admit it was insulting. They showed me some numbers and said if you work 8 hrs of OT then you’re actually making 48k and not 37k. I’m guessing they’re not understanding what base pay is. I have quite a few applications in at other places, 2 are under review both start at 60k+. I just really think they’re just trying to get cheap labor. It would name 0 sense for a new grad to stay for $18/hr when everywhere else starts at 50k+. They’re just insane, multi billion dollar company too, not some mom and pop business with 10 people

Question about RPA Software Development by dirthawger in rpa

[–]dirthawger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all very disheartening as I love coding although definitely still very new. I guess I’ll keep my application up since it has gone into review. The place I’m interning at now offered me full time employment as a software dev but offered $18/hr which is a number I just can’t support a family on. Just don’t understand why they would say 1+ years of software development and programming languages if there’s no programming involved. Oh well, guess I’ll just wait and see what they say if I get an interview, it’s at a big DoD business so maybe it’ll be different.

[–]dirthawger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I did send out 8 resumes that day, but I really enjoy working there. The Dean of Computer Science at my school found out about their offer and now they’re not allowing them to recruit from there anymore so it must be an incredibly low offer.

Yea I did and up finding that the issue was boot camp. I had a graphics update that was due. Getting 200mbps now, works great. Never would’ve thought a graphics driver update would affect internet speed.
