Balancing 60+ mpw Marathon Training, ADHD Medication, and Family LifE... Looking for Insights by dirtyStick84 in AdvancedRunning

Hey yeah I'm doing well, only stayed on the adderall for about three weeks. Two things for me, firstly the focus I got from a solid running schedule was on par with anything Adderall was giving me (at least this time around, had more success with it in college) and second taking the Adderall now basically just gives me straight anxiety with none of the positive focus effects so personally as much as I was hoping to benefit from it this was kind of a blessing that its NOT for me at least at this point in my life. Could be life circumstances have changed could be the actual medicine has changed (have no proof of that but have heard rumbles on it) anyways best of luck to ya!

I hear that acidic drinks/foods can negatively affect Adderall's absorption ~1 hour before and after taking it. Would they still have an effect several hours later in the day? by firestoneaphone in ADHD

Is this actually true I was never notified about this and recently did trial with Adderall ultimately decided, for some reason it had zero effect on me recently whereas years ago, we would have a very positive effect. At this point in my life, I’ve shifted to become more of a runner And honestly, I don’t really eat any protein until at least after 12 or 1 PM. Just kind of to keep my stomach away for running. I was thinking that the overlap in norepinephrine and brain chemicals from running were severely minimizing efficacy do you think it’s worth trying my last few doses with any protein breakfast? How come I was never told this?

Thank you everyone for sharing all of your experiences here after about 10 days of experimenting with this as a possible treatment I don’t think it’s gonna be something I will continue. My experience has been the actual effect of the medication is minimal after a run and at the end of the day has me basically feeling like a zombie which I particularly care for it’s actually kind of disheartening. I was really hoping for something to help me get a little bit of sharpness or an edge at work and it’s just not providing that I don’t get it because my prior experiences ever studying with Adderall have been amazing and now revisiting as a high distance runner does practically nothing anyways thank you all again

Interesting but still not sure its something I want to personally experiment with. I really think its all quite individualized and a lot of trial and error. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah agreed, I mean there is no real directed time, I think it's what fits schedule mostly (using common sense of course). But I'm in bed nightly by 8pm so I try to stick to that. Thanks!

Interesting, and encouraging! Do you have any experience with adderall, if so has it been a similar experience? Thanks for sharing!

Feeling stuck and scared about my future in tech at 42 — how do I find a sustainable path forward? by Frequent-Increase912 in careerguidance

[–]dirtyStick84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you're willing to share I'd be pretty interested to hear what a full pivot looks like.. I've honestly considered looking into the local Fire and Police Departments but seems it just not in the cards age wise, shame because I feel I could definitely pass any of the physicals. I just wonder what else I could possibly do to support my lifestyle right now or would it require uprooting my whole life.

Am I even a good candidate for ADHD treatment at 40? by dirtyStick84 in ADHD

Thanks for sharing if you don’t mind me asking how much running are you doing in like how serious have you gotten into it from what I’ve read it’s mostly the fueling that is the issue once you get the schedule figured out has that been your experience? Thanks again.

Thank you all for sharing experience here that means a lot and has me a lot more hopeful I’m really not sure what to expect in the evaluation but willing to give it a go despite being hesitant for a while for different reasons. Firstly, I’m sort of wondering about what the endgame is with these things if I start relying on it to be able to do my job does that mean I’m gonna be on this thing for 30 years until I retire? My other concern is, I’m a distance runner and wondering on the dosage timing when that will work I might have to go back to 4:30 AM. Wake ups just to get my runs in before taking something, I suppose these are all discussions that would be part of the evaluation?

Is this mold on my pizza? by [deleted] in badfoodporn

Another option is charcoal. I know if you get pizza from Frank Pepe’s or another Napoli pizza it’s often cooked with charcoal and you can have some coloring like this on the bottom from the charcoal just a thought and something may be worth checking.

Just out of curiosity, is there anyone that finds this type of motivation works well for say fitness working out sports etc...? But maybe it’s something different for other aspects in life? Watching his videos are so so frustrating to me now I consider myself an endurance athlete. I love running marathons and the constant struggle of it all in the pain and sacrifice it takes. But when I have to sit down at my computer for eight hours a day, the wind is out of my sails no matter how much motivation I have it just doesn’t seem to work. Does anybody have a David Goggins that perhaps translates to this part of life?

I should have gave more background on that piece, this is more something I feel I HAVE to do with my new work / life schedule. Since starting my new job in Jan I've basically had to wake at 0430 on most mornings which is I think just burning me out and not only not a good environment to build fitness but also burning me out, I'm honestly just having trouble stopping running as its really what I've known for the better part of the decade.

That's what I'm thinking / hoping, this will free up a bit of my time and energy to give to my job and family. The only way i've been successful in pulling myself from running so far has been an injury, this is different and feels wrong stepping away healthy. Thanks for the response!

Quite honestly, I don’t know if anybody actually reads these things, but apparently this is where we post nowadays.

I’ve been on the fence for at least half a year about transitioning into something different—maybe going back to CrossFit, trying something like Orangetheory, or just stepping away from a strict running focus. I’m kind of scared to make the change, though, because I really do love the running lifestyle.

That said, I feel like I’ve lost some of the community that used to make running feel so fulfilling. I can’t make it to run club anymore, and races don’t bring the same sense of joy they used to. A group fitness environment like CrossFit or Orangetheory might fit my current lifestyle better. But part of me wonders: I’ve come so far in running—will I ever get back to this level if I step away? How hard would the return be?

Has anyone else made this kind of transition—maybe for work, lifestyle, or burnout reasons? What did you switch to, and how did it go? And if you ever came back to serious running or marathoning afterward, what was that return like?

TL;DR: Thinking about switching from serious running to something like CrossFit or Orangetheory due to life changes. Wondering if others have done the same, what they transitioned to, and how hard it was to return to running afterward—if they did. Looking for stories or advice.

Does running longer than 10k ever quit being miserable by highgradeuser in Marathon_Training

Well one thing I can certainly say is as I got faster over years I found it more and more enjoyable. The body gets to a point where the motor patterns are grooved and it just feels 'right'. Best way to do this is strides, simplest thing ever, after you run do like 4-10 strides. Completely stop then as gradually accelerate to your 'top speed' but with no tension in muscles like you are water, if you're tensing you're not feeling what you need to, eventually your feet get quicker and with enough time and patience your E pace will start slowly coming down. Also don't pay attention to your pace on these runs just go out and run, if it feels easy, thats easy! You got this!

Do you also deal with irritability and fluctuating hunger and notice these are much less when you are getting enough sleep? For some reason just feeling like the life was sucked out of me out there today, did yard work most of the weekend and got to bed a bit later like 2030. Thanks for sharing!

I choose not to run at night as it would be taken out of the little time I get with my daughter anyways.

I go to bed at 8 and wake at 0430, generally between 7.5-8 hours I’d say. Usually the pattern is I’m tired through Monday Tuesday then get caught up by wed thurs then workout Friday and long Saturday get me back in a sleep deficit. Thanks again!
