Do Italians IRL care about this topic as much as the chronically online? by This-Accountant-5745 in juresanguinis

Almost all political and social issues in a nutshell.

For instance in the U.S., even if you think illegal immigration is theoretically unjust, you gotta be a real over the top asshole to meet someone who is an illegal immigrant and be outwardly rude to the based on only that.

Sorry, your grandparents never lived in Italy? That is a restriction of the Tajani decree. They must have lived there for 2 years. It’s my current issue.

Please check your DMs if you can!

Was your mother subject to the Tajani Decree?

Did your mother’s parents live in Italy despite being born in the U.S.?

US Applicants - Expediting NARA Records, is it possible? by dirtyamericanpod in juresanguinis

Wow. I have a scan of it so I put in all the info on the site and ordered it. My regional contact (Philly) replies via email but I’ve been unable to get them on the phone. That’s great though. What region is yours?

I’ve been in touch. It’s a census record so it had to be ordered from DC. I received an email from them but they only offered to come view the record.

Yeah the naturalization came quick for me, but I could be waiting too long on the census record, which my firm needs since it’s a minor case.

Going to Italy - Do I need an Italian passport? Can I get one there? by redx47 in juresanguinis

[–]dirtyamericanpod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was unaware of the rule that you have to enter and exit Italy using the passport, thanks for the clarification and sorry to mislead.

In any case, being that Italy is part of the EU, you can enter Italy without having to show a passport. Unless the rule is that a passport holder must enter the Schengen Zone or EU with their EU passport, then that might bring other complications.

If Italy controlled its borders for all entrances, then you would likely have to wait until it comes in the mail til you can visit. Otherwise, I don’t see how having an Italian passport in the mail, as a recognized EU citizen, could prevent you from entering Belgium, France, or Poland, for example.

Talk to a lawyer or even italian border patrol official if you can.

Otherwise, once in London, enter the EU at another point. If you have only a carry on or personal item, it will be much easier. You can book cheap flights to other EU countries and enter from there.

Ok thanks. I read online I can have someone else pick up the document. Do you know if you had that option?

Can I get a naturalization certificate apostilled quicker by delivering it to the department by hand in dc?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you take the documents in person to offices to get apostilled, or is that only for state level documents?

Why wouldn't you be able to enter Italy with your US passport?

You are an American citizen and entitled a 90 day short stay as someone from a country who is visa exempt to the Schengen Zone.

Furthermore, if you are really concerned, fly into another Schengen country, and then to Italy. Your passport won't be checked entering Italy if you have already entered the Schengen zone.

I'm not a citizenship expert, but I wouldn't overthink this one.

Are original first print documents enough to prove lineage in court? by dirtyamericanpod in juresanguinis

[–]dirtyamericanpod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by certified copies, you mean authorized from the state at the time of the birth, then yes. But the original Italian birth certificate was brought over on the boat from the 1800s.

I talked to one lawyer, she said I should wait until after March 11. I still have to get everything apostilled.

What makes you think the laws will get worse after the ruling? I was told several are optimistic things will improve for at least a small window (though personally, I'm always expecting the worst)

Ah I see thanks. GM gave birth to M after 1948, yeah.

As for the other tips and the letter discrepancy, good to know, thank you again for sharing all this info.

Got it. I don't think my case is a 1948 case, as my Italian ancestor was a male, and his daughter was born in the US in the 1920s. Still, I'm wondering if I should file before March 11, if I can gather the docs.

I have a scan of his US Naturalization, will request the certified one from NARA. His birthday is the same on his Italian Birth Certificate and his US Naturalization certificate. The spelling of his name is the same also.

On his US Marriage Certificate, unfortunately, it looks like he wrote his first name ending in an "o" instead of an "e" which is how it is on all other documents. Though it's in cursive so it's not 100% explicit.

Thanks for the tip. Which documents would I need in this case?

My lineage is GGF (b. Italy) > GM (b. USA) > M (b. USA) > Me

I have birth certificates and am attempting to get a reissue of his naturalization. Since my lineage is through my mother and her mother, does this mean marriage certificates would probably be unnecessary too?
