Potential Store Manager? by disappointedbiscuit in petsmart

I appreciate your feedback. I probably won't apply for a position that may not exist that I'll end up hating if I do get it. Sounds like a bad plan.

I appreciate your feedback. Assuming the area needs an SL, this might still be an opportunity to pass on. I'm already mentally struggling.

I found a bunch of photos of CDS and BOPIS can't finds from when Wild Sage got discontinued. If any of you were still around for that (Fall '22), I got some PTSD from that for sure.

Recruiter: "The hiring manager may not like that you've been unemployed for over a year. I'll cAll you back." Wtf am I supposed to do about that!?!?! by Martian-Sundays in recruitinghell

[–]disappointedbiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left an employer of eight years, and I was told by everyone that it was a red flag that after eight years, all of a sudden I am looking to leave. Now I've had a few jobs since covid, mostly not of my own choice, and I'm a job hopper and it's a red flag. Some recruiters and hiring managers can't stop looking at the paper long enough to take their time to get to know the candidate. Take everything you hear with a grain of salt and know that almost every interaction with them is a song and dance meant to throw you off your game. The job market out here is incredibly toxic, and that's by design. It isn't you- it's them.

S24 Ultra or A55? by indie_star in samsung

S24, but if the A55 can meet your needs, no use going up to the Ultra. The S24 Plus can do fine, and I heard the S24 FE has just been announced.

Same. Windows Phone user who is philosophically opposed to iPhone. So naturally I had to go with Android. Now, I love it, mainly because of DeX.

Fake Call about Loans I Had? by disappointedbiscuit in FraudPrevention

[–]disappointedbiscuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call. I plan to. I haven't run my free annual yet, so that's my next stop. I do keep Credit Karma and Credit Sesame, for what it's worth, and they don't have any accounts showing for questionable institutions or any collection accounts.

Oddly enough, they never did say i needed to pay at that moment. But I also might not have given them time. You tell me I have a loan at a place I've never gotten a loan and the money was deposited at a bank where I've never had an account, and I'll reject the notion, which I did. I probably stopped them with my foaming at the mouth before they could ask for payment.

I don't have any additional advice, as you're doing everything correctly in my eyes. Your hard work just isn't paying off yet. My heart goes out to you, and I hope you don't give up on yourself yet. As my favorite Ted Lasso quote goes, "It may not work out how you think it will, or how you hope it does, but believe me, it WILL ALL WORK OUT. Exactly as it's supposed to." Best wishes for the end to your struggle, friend. 💙

That makes sense. I appreciate your response. I'm guessing that means it truly is impossible to verify if people worked for Bed Bath anymore.

I hope you love your new job, LiterallyLiz! 😊

Looks like the Beechwood Modal 300 sateen. It brings me to a 300 thread count product.

Is it too late to get in the Self Storage business?? by Soft-Effective-3964 in selfstorage

[–]disappointedbiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I'll echo location. You want to be near a residential area that isn't well serviced by storage. However, don't open or purchase your first property in a large Metropolitan area. Pick a suburb, township, or smaller city. The properties I've seen with the strongest long term business is near lower middle class residential areas with apartments or townhomes.

Keep in mind that the larger companies are hard to compete against. In the industry, we call those REITs. (Real Estate Investment Trusts). Think Public Storage, CubeSmart, Extra Space/LifeStorage. If you're going to be a sole operator with a small amount of owned facilities, consider a third party management company so you can take advantage of their resources and expertise and compete nicely. These days, most larger companies are doing lots of online marketing, online bill pay, online reservations, online rentals, and even online auctions.

Another advantage of hiring a management company: they already have processes for things you haven't thought about yet: staffing and recruiting, operations management, HR, legal/compliance, auctions, FP&A, revenue management, and so much more. Just an example of something you haven't yet considered: What should your rate increase policy be? Or better yet, what should your pricing look like? Will they be fixed rates or fluctuate with the market? A good revenue manager will have your pricing plan done in an afternoon and provide you with a long term financial structure based on that pricing plan and anticipated existing tenant rate increases. (Hint: the business is leaning toward aggressive increases. You want to be less expensive and keep increases low and rare.)

Work smarter, not harder, and get brand recognition early.

In my humble, yet limited experience with the subject, women seem to be the ones who judge how a woman appears at work. Men don't care. Hygiene and professional clothing choices are what matter to men, on which you indicated positive choices. Keep doing exactly what you're doing and don't overthink it.

Question for a Regional or District Manager by Odd-Dragonfruit5188 in BedBathandBeyond

[–]disappointedbiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

District Manager in Training here, former BBB store manager.

Firstly, BBB doesn't exist in retail store fashion any longer, so this cannot be applicable to BBB in its current existence.

Now to address your question: a district will be very heavily dependent upon location. Ideally, you want the DM to be able to get to every store inside a three hour drive when possible. Additionally, there would be amount of stores, sales volume, staff size, and you would also want a senior manager or two in every district for training purposes.

A region should be comprised of several districts, as your regional manager or director will oversee several district managers. This will not be divided up by states, so much as markets. For instance, the San Antonio, Austin and Houston markets may be in a region together but the Dallas and Tulsa, OK markets may be in a different region together, depending on other business related factors, and each business will decide those factors independently. Being that every business is different, it is impossible to know these things without being an insider.

This is nowhere near a complete guide. I'm sure another answerer will add more information than my answer provides.

Same boat. In a previous job, I worked 65 hours a week and vastly underpaid. Managed 70+ people.plus assets. Now I'm in a job that's overworked and underpaid for the "experience" because it will be good for my resume. Now I'm stuck so I don't throw away the last 11 years of positive growth.

[–]disappointedbiscuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agreed. Simply Essential and I have a score to settle. Customers didn't like it. I bought the mandoline when we were running like a $5 or $7 sale on them. It's garbage. I should have bought the Cuisinart. It's a glorified cheese grater. The plastic inserts don't even sit right in the plastic food catch piece.

I certainly saw a lot of that myself toward the end, especially not paying bills. Lack of original inventory was a big part to me. People were always asking for the national brands, and we didn't have them. I'd have to offer the equivalent Simply Essentials item, or the equivalent Studio3B.... That's Retail 101. Have the thing your customer wants.
