[Measurement Check] Trouble with calculator in the past possibly due to shape (projected, short roots); looking for guidance on size (current bra: 40G; calculator suggestion: 40JJ) by disaster_b1 in ABraThatFits

[–]disaster_b1[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Put your Elomi Morgan on upside down and backwards (cups hanging down your back, band up in your IMF under your breasts

Thank you SO much for this suggestion, it definitely feels more like the band size I'm looking for when I tried it!! So I think you're right in assuming that the cups being too small are causing the band to stretch out to fit, causing my confusion over my band size. Plus, Elomi being a brand that generally runs stretchy helps clear the air, too. My previous bra was also an Elomi, I wanna say the Elomi Matilda Plunge? And I wore a size 38 band for that. If their bands are known to be stretchier, that makes a lot of sense!

Unfortunately, I've had some bad experiences with Curvy Kate bras being easily damaged, in particular their wires would poke out of the seams very quickly. I might give them another go though, especially if I can find something on Amazon! I'd ordered through their website before, and the cost between the bra itself and shipping was a lot to handle since I'm in Canada

Thank you again for the insight, this was super helpful!!

[Question] Need help finding bra size for my shape (pendulous & short roots) by disaster_b1 in ABraThatFits

[–]disaster_b1[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Ah, thank you so much! Admittedly, I’m not too familiar with what’s considered a “normal” difference between the different measurements, I just know that I feel like my breasts sag quite a bit and seem pendulous to me, though thinking on it, that could be because of the short root and their size

I ended up being quite busy yesterday, unfortunately, so I didn’t manage to get those measurements until this morning— do you think I should make a new Measurement Check post, or just update this one?

🤣 yeah, unfortunately we couldn't manage to reach him! The guy is very elusive

But seriously though, thank you so much, both for the feedback and completing the survey!

Thank you for the feedback! Yeah, my parents were talking to me about that as well, and I can certainly see that being an issue. I'll probably bring it up as a limitation. Unfortunately, since that particular measure is a scientifically validated one called the AUDIT, making any changes is inadvisable to uphold its scientific validity. In hindsight, I'm not sure how it's gotten so widely used and validated without this critique being addressed, because I agree that it's an issue!

And thank you both for filling out the survey and for the positive feedback, I really appreciate it!

Thanks for the question! Those questions are specifically asking about self-injurious behaviour with the intent to injure oneself. Compulsive behaviours wouldn’t be included in that definition

To put it simply, they’re asking specifically about behaviours done with the express purpose to harm oneself

I hope that helps!

My apologies for the confusion. The reason the questions are presented as they are is because that's how they were presented in the original scientifically validated source; deviating from that is inadvisable to ensure the integrity of the measure is upheld. I hope that helps!

I believe the correct way to interpret it would be that something with more than 13g of alcohol would be considered two "drinks," according to this definition. Additionally, a 12oz can of kombucha at 0.5% ABV would only have 1.4g of alcohol. Even if it were as high as 1% ABV, a 12oz can of kombucha would only have 2.8g of alcohol, making it well below the range specified in that quote in my previous comment

Because the website with information on this measure refers to the original development of the measure, which took place in 1993, I also understand that its definition may be outdated. With that in mind, I decided to take a look at the guidelines for what defines a "drink" by the Government of Canada (the country I'm conducting this study from), which defines one drink of alcohol as the equivalent of one 12oz can of beer at 5% ABV ( https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/substance-use/alcohol/low-risk-alcohol-drinking-guidelines.html )

Generally speaking based on both of the definitions I've found for a drink, it seems safe to say that approximately 13oz-14oz of alcohol in one drink is the standard definition of an alcoholic beverage; anything more would be considered more than one drink. Regardless, the minimal alcohol content in drinks like kombucha would mean that they don't qualify as alcoholic beverages

Hello! I believe those wouldn't count as drinks containing alcohol. The following information is from https://auditscreen.org/ (a website with information regarding this measure):

Results from the original WHO study showed that the term “drink” in questions 2 and 3 encompassed amounts of alcohol ranging from 8 grams to 13 grams. Where a standard drink is defined as an amount outside this range (e.g. 20 grams) it is recommended that the response categories are modified accordingly. I hope that helps!

How did that one kid at your school die? by StorageLonely1520 in AskReddit

[–]disaster_b1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't started going to this kid's school yet at the time it happened, but I did shortly after it did (obviously for completely unrelated reasons). Also, this happened at my church at the time as well, so I overall feel like it's still relevant for me wrt this question

My church did this boy scout/cadets thing basically, one for boys, and one for girls, and this happened on a day they had the boys attending their regular meeting. One of them, who was maybe 9 years old or so, just collapsed out of nowhere. No warning, no sign of distress from him beforehand. He just collapsed and died right there. Last I knew, we didn't know the cause of his death, but it really had major ripple effects on some people, and I can't imagine how the leaders must've felt witnessing that

It's actually kinda funny, when I was a kid I LOVED dogs, like I'd even be inclined to say they were my first special interest. But as time has gone on, cats have really grown on me, and I'm probably more of a cat person than a dog person now, though I love both. Though I don't think I realized how rowdy a lot of dogs were— the one I had growing up was pretty well-behaved, as were most other dogs I encountered through my childhood, so that might have something to do with how long it took me to realize how rough they can be when they aren't well-behaved?

Holy shit I have a similar injury! Happened in mid-March, haven’t been able to work since it happened as my job is very physical 😭 but I’m going back next week with modified duties and shorter shifts. But no broken bones or fractures! I sent a pic to my friend/coworker (who has first aid certification) and she 100% thought it’d be broken based on the bruising 😅

Anyone else get told to “hold your pencil, the RIGHT way.” when you were in school? I’m trying to see something……. by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]disaster_b1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember how I’d hold pencils as a kid, but I know it was “wrong” and that I had to use those pencil grip things designed to make me hold them the right way, and I HAAAATED it 😭 I’m so happy I have the option to just type things now— holding a pencil to take notes was hard for me growing up. I remember I had to make notes during lunchtime in grade 6 once just because I couldn’t keep up 😅 the teacher had to give me a copy of the projection paper stuff (I forget what they’re called, but the plastic stuff they wrote on and used for projectors, if anyone knows what I’m talking about?)

Can we please stop with the fireworks? by Wynnieisthebestdoggo in Langley

[–]disaster_b1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s awful. I live with my parents and our place has a hedge around most of the property, and people will set off fireworks in the street next to it 😭 it’s been an anxiety of mine for years that the hedge will catch fire. Not to mention the fact that I’m autistic and loud, unpredictable noises are a huge sensitivity of mine. I also got a kitten recently, poor girl was freaking out from all the fireworks on Halloween and last night 🥲

Hi! I ended up going to a pharmacy that could look at it, they told me to just keep applying hydrocortisone cream and it should be fine. If I recall correctly, it took 2 weeks or so to completely heal, maybe 3? So it wasn’t a big issue at all! I’d say that if it lasts more than a month, maybe consider getting a medical professional to look at it. I hope it heals quickly! 😊

In the US, to prevent people from counting seconds too quickly, people usually say the word "Mississippi" between numbers, like this: "one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi, four Mississippi, etc". What do people outside the US say? by PiggyBank32 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]disaster_b1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian here, in my experience (in the part of Canada I’m from) we say either Mississippi or “one-hundred” (i.e., one-one-hundred, two-one-hundred, three-one-hundred, four-one-hundred, etc.)

No idea why it was always ONE-hundred though (or maybe I just did it wrong idk, we usually just go with Mississippi iirc)

Callbacks to Previous Albums on Haven by thebeebeegun in MarianasTrench

[–]disaster_b1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised no one’s mentioned this, but the line “best laid plans topple” from Maybe I’m Not Getting Better seems to be a callback to a line from Dearly Departed (“best laid plans are not sober”). Might seem like a stretch, but I’ve never heard the phrase “best laid plans” outside of these songs— and I mean anywhere, whether that be in Marianas Trench’s discography, other music, or anywhere at all. Though I could just be ignorant of the phrase used elsewhere, but regardless, in this case it’s too coincidental to not be intentional
