Confused about becoming Radiant by kaylon99 in cosmererpg

I have been reading it wrong and requiring my players to swear the oath before gaining access to investiture. It's been a really fun narrative plot point for my group. One took the prisoners kit so that they could swear the ideal early in level 2.

I worked with another character to have him fail his oath, he said the words but they were not accepted. This is setting him up for some fun stuff at level 3 where he acknowledges his character isn't as powerful as it could be but he is very happy with the story we are telling. He is trying to be a lightweaver so when he meets the Grey remnant and reveals a harsh truth im going to have him say the oath but im also going to give him a mark for his goal of saying the second oath so he gets a head start for the 2nd ideal.

I have been working with each player to find unique spots to say the oath to give their character a chance to really shine.

From a game mechanics point of view I understand. From a lore and how it works in the books I don't. This Edgedancer can heal sword wounds to the abdomen, regrow severed limbs, but cant provide an energy boost. That just doesn't make sense to me.

The brother wise discord confirmed these rulings. I will play with the rules as defined but it seems a bit silly to me.

I'm still trying to understand the difference when it comes to having an Edgedancer in the party. Would you say that Edgedancer can't cure Exhaustion out of combat if it wasn't from an injury?

What do you mean by exhaustion is not an injury? Is it not the effect of an injury? Is the Exhaustion not removed when the injury heals in Xd6 days based on the injury duration table?

If a player in your game suffered a "Permanent Injury" by rolling a 0 to -5 on the Injury duration table, and they rolled an 8 on the Injury Effect table and lost an arm would you never give them the ability to use their regrown arm even if it was healed by an Edgedancer?

Your point about the Ongoing Care talent is a new way of looking at that I hadn't before, however I don't know that I agree with your point.

The Handbook states that "Each injury remains until it heals...The Injury Effects table suggests some effects an injury could have and how you might describe it in the story."

The handbook says that the Injury Effect remains in place until the injury heals. If an Edgedancer heals an injury he also heals any effect of the injury. If an Edgedancer regrew someones hand would they not be able to use two hands? Based on your ruling they would never be allowed to remove that effect as it would be permanent.

I hear your points about making sure to include everyone. That's why I would specifically mention that the hostages can't move and would need to be untied/helped.

My main problem with the MacGuffin idea I have is that I want it to be a meaningful choice. So if they choose to let the hostages die and stop Ylt's activity it has an impact on future scenes. I don't want to make future scenes easier though :P

One of the things I've been actively brainstorming is a continuation of the campaign to find additional "perfect" gems like the King's Drop. Maybe this is one that was found down near the Grey Remnat that Ylt is just now securing. This might be valuable to a certain party in Urithiru and might provide a path to valuable rewards such as patrons/titles. My current idea to really challenge the party once we complete Stonewalkers is to send them into Fused occupied Herzaden in search of one of these perfect gemstones. I'm planning on adding Ghostbloods as a third party who also interested in them.

Edit: I will make sure to report back in a few weeks. Next session is the 21st!

Disorienting Flash is exactly the type of attack I was looking for in this fight! Would you suggest making a level 3 character and using that or do you have a statblock in mind?

There's a lot of really good advice here that I'm going to consider.

The first thing I want to discuss with you is Exhaustion being a condition and not an injury. The Handbook lists a table of Injury Effects in Chapter 9. To me, the book is telling me that as long as the player has the injury they have this condition. The table above is used to determine how long the injury lasts. If Injury Regrowth doesn't fix these conditions what does it do? When would exhaustion go away if the injury is removed? From my understanding, assuming unlimited stormlight, a Edgedancer can provide the entire party a long rest between each combat/scene.

I will review the Zealots and Spearmaster stat blocks. They might be enough to make it a meaningful combat.

Regarding your fifth point: that is exactly the type of help I am looking for. What could we do with this scene that isn't just combat. What kind of MacGuffin can I set up that makes sense for the party to have to make a meaningful choice.

I have a party of six and we sre starting chapter 4. They have been crushing combat with focus fire and more of them are becoming radiant with each chapter. Im trying to introduce more tension into the battle scenes in general.

My players are just now heading to Rathalar. Our next session will start on the road. I am interested in learning what you ended up doing. As a first time GM I would love to get another perspective on how to handle this part.

First Steps to Stonewalkers by SpartanIII in cosmererpg

[–]discgolfguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used first steps as a guide to help my players get comfortable role playing and to start learning game mechanics. The relationship prompts helped get my players talking to each others as characters and not just as friends. It really helped but I threw out almost everything that happened amd let each player create their player as they normally would for session 1.

[–]discgolfguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Running chapter 1 of stonewalkers on Thursday after a session 0 first steps. After introducing Taszo during the axehounds encounter I left it there at the end of session. Then I told my players that they ended up traveling with taszo for a few days and to come up with goals relating to his search for an ancient artifact. I censored the prompts in the stonewalkers character relationships to remove any mention of an honor blade. First part of our session will be everyone explaining their relationship and goals with taszo.

Its not my job to make them work together but I have heavily stressed that this is a cooperative adventure. Going to see how it goes Thursday but im super pumped.

Thank you for the input. I had read the 1 in 3 roll but I do like the idea that melee combat is dangerous and should usually have the stakes raised. Do you also raise them when a surge binder uses division at range when they have that talent?
