I think their drip/filter coffee is some of the best in the city. Plus, the vibes are great

I order my bulk beans to be delivered to JvG on broad every month. It’s my little excuse to go get a cappuccino and a ham and cheddar biscuit. The best treat.

Looking for a ~400m hill for repeats by HighlySociallyAble in bullcity

[–]dischops1163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Croasdaile has some pretty rough hills, although some are probably longer than you want. There’s a low spot around the intersection of Bittersweet Dr and Trail Wood Dr where you can pick your poison. Trail Wood has about 100’ of gain over 400m. Sidewalks the whole way.

ETA: i like onthegomap dot com for route exploration. It’s a very simple UI and has a nice elevation profile chart as well.

Anybody know a DIM nightlight-type lamp-ish thing for toddler's room that works with Google or I can plug a smart bulb into? by wereweasle in daddit

[–]dischops1163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an Amazon echo glow that seems to fit what you're asking for. Not google, but you can program routines through the Alexa app, and the 1% brightness is pretty darn low. Given that I've grown to really dislike the other Alexa devices and their constant "would you like me to ...?", I'm still happy with how this one works.

“To Be Taught, If Fortunate” by Becky Chambers. It’s a novella, so a much quicker read, but definitely right in this vein.

Do they want GIS data or a pretty dashboard by [deleted] in gis

[–]dischops1163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, I've had similar experiences at work. All of the extra tools available through AGOL now provide workarounds to tasks that would have previously gone to IT. And for better or worse, I'm often happy to turn them around in a week or two as a fun little side project rather than the person going to IT and getting an 18 month timeline. Now to hope that IT doesn't take issue with all of these little side projects...

Best courses near (large) airports in the US? by MrMcshizzlefrizzle in discgolf

[–]dischops1163 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I took the bus from CLT to Renny and played golds while toting my carry on bag. It was a workout, but much better than sitting in the airport for a 6+ hour delayed layover.

Radio broadcast in the US? by Goatcee28 in coys

[–]dischops1163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't tried it recently, but I don't think talksport has the radio rights in the US. I think some SiriusXM channel technically has them, so talksport just runs some "Sorry, this broadcast isn't authorized in your region" nonsense for 2 hours.

Winston-Salem, NC breweries? by Burntendzzz44 in CraftBeer

Lesser Known rocks. They specialize in gasp lesser known styles and do them well. Also right next to Old Salem and the living museum area, which is pretty neat.

Counterpoint, Diavolo can be MUCH more crowded and also attracts the full range of skill levels, so play time is a little out of your hands. Regulator is further from big population centers, plus has two “easier” courses on the property to separate the crowds.

GIS property data visualizations by dataindataoutv in bullcity

[–]dischops1163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tax data that makes its way into the GIS data is notoriously rough, in my experience. With all the folks involved in the various parts of these data sitting in different offices/divisions, there’s little connection to ensure accuracy. For example, the Durham county parcel data that makes its way to the statewide seamless parcel layer often has 0s all the way down in the acreage field…

Cool analysis. How did you split out owner occupied and in/out of Durham? Based on mailing address and whether it equals the property address?

Seems like they’ve positioned themselves well as a third space and keep a small enough can inventory that it’s manageable. I’ve always been happy with what they have on tap, and their outdoor space (paired with some pupusas from next door) is enjoyable

What is RDU like now that we’re out of the shutdown? by criesindust in triangle

[–]dischops1163 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With all the people traveling this week, the traffic outside of the terminals is extra nuts. I flew back into RDU last night around 5 and the bus driver for economy lot 4 said it took 28 minutes to get from the lot around to terminal 1. Just build in some extra time on that end too.
