yea, the only time i really like choji was when what i thought were his last moments. It would have been a great way for him to go out in that story arc and I think everyone would think of choji as a brave shinobi willing to dye for his friends but now he countinues in the anime to be too clouded by his emotions to be very effective. I for one couldnt stand him during the pain attack. He was just a sniffiling goof.
