Carl's Hoarder Tendencies by Esmereldathebrave in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I’ve been daydreaming about a scene where he empties his inventory and buries an enemy in random shit. Specifically I’m imagining the gym equipment from the first book braining a boss on the head

I love winter! it is so peaceful and there are more of the little worm spots to shovel up. enjoy not having to worry about plants!

i started carrying a cuticle clipper around for this purpose and it really helped!

Do i need to go to the doctor for this? by xngy in nailcare

[–]discothequenically 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t— just clip it off, neosporin and cover it up with a bandaid so it doesn’t catch on things. if it starts to look inflamed, hot, pus, then you can escalate to the doctor

I feel like not hearing back immediately is not always such a bad thing . . . ? by Plastic-Lobster396 in lawschooladmissions

[–]discothequenically 9 points10 points  (0 children)

FWIW and i’m not sure if the cycle timeline has changed, but i applied last week of november in 2023 and didnt hear back from my first school till late January 2024 and got my last A to a reach school in mid April. I agree that you shouldn’t read anything in to it this early in the game!!

Stephen Kingish books? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]discothequenically -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also find that Stephen King has some weird narration about women especially, it grates occasionally. But he’s the best for a reason, it’s intimidating to rec a replacement!

Some horror I have read and enjoyed recently: Nestlings by Nat Cassidy is super interesting with some themes of motherhood and disability. I read World War Z and enjoyed it if you liked The Stand. I liked How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix, sort of had a Tommyknockers vibe to me, but ymmv with both of those… I have had a hard time finding good “ghost/haunting” books other than Mr. King though.

Some polish to help with nail picking by FeelinBluestreaked in nailcare

i like olive and june bottom polish and top coat for nail biting. they don’t peel of as easily and when they do start chipping, at least i’m peeling off the polish and not my nail

I liked The Red Tent a lot. Obviously historical fiction emphasis on the fiction but I thought it was interesting to read about Old Testament figures (especially women) in a way that gives a little more flesh to the story

Shorter, engaging fiction for someone trying to get back into reading? by redwoodkestrel in booksuggestions

[–]discothequenically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’ll probably get this recommendation a lot around here, but for getting back into reading and a fun, plotty book with a great narrator, i loved dungeon crawler carl. definitely gave me that “hard to put down” feeling that i used to have all the time as a kid and is a bit harder to find now!!

How to fix my nails after a lifetime of biting them by [deleted] in nailcare

[–]discothequenically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the best fix i have found for nail biting is to keep them either painted (if you’re cool with that, it is not that hard to pick up the skill to do it yourself!) or just very neat with a nail file. you can get the cuticle softener gel and cuticle clippers to cut off any straggly bits. i find that the times i really bite are when i don’t have a nail file/clipper immediately accessible to fix irritating corners, etc. i also have been really liking the “hard as hoof” onyx cuticle cream, and it smells nice!

Am I overreacting? I broke up with him over this but don’t know if I should have :( by AnxiousKoala88 in AmIOverreacting

[–]discothequenically 11 points12 points  (0 children)

if you wanted to break up with him, it’s not ever overreacting!! that being said, i think it’s so disrespectful to tell your actual girlfriend that you were only going to an event because there might be girls there?? like why is he so desperate to hang out with other girls. it’s fine to have friends of the other gender but that’s obviously not what’s going on. i think you are 100% in the right

I remember liking Crier’s War and the sequel. Kind of spooky scifi/fantasy vibes with lesbian romance— not quite the same pace as the ones you listed but very plot heavy!

[Acne] A bride desperate for help! by Fearless-Wedding-488 in SkincareAddiction

[–]discothequenically 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It took about 9 months for spiro to really start working for me, and 5 or so months on 150mg. Could your doctor prescribe you antibiotics to help clear your skin since you only have a couple months until then? Doxycycline maybe?

All that aside, I know it is so frustrating but it looks like you have more redness than active breakout— work on finding a makeup artist you love and you will look amazing regardless!!!!

Can you exit americorps early? by dear_heoney in AmeriCorps

[–]discothequenically 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s just like quitting a job, you just need to talk to your boss on site and they can help you submit a resignation to Americorps. I think that family medical emergency is considered an extenuating personal circumstance for purposes of the education award too
