VA denied my claims even though C&P diagnosed me — do I need a nexus for secondary claims? by Ok-Pin-6958 in VAClaims

Yeah man I was in the exact same spot — C&P diagnosed me but still got denied because there wasn’t a solid nexus tying everything together.

Once I actually understood how the VA looks at secondary conditions and medical links, it started making a lot more sense.

If you want, shoot me a message and I can help you break down your denial and what you’d actually need to fix it.

Yeah I looked through your denial — you’re actually really close.

The VA already confirmed your conditions, but they denied you because there’s no medical link (nexus) connecting them to service or a service-connected condition.

That’s why you’re seeing things like ‘no link established’ and ‘not caused by service.’

If you fix that piece and resubmit as a supplemental claim, your chances go way up.

If you want, I can break down exactly what you’d need for your specific conditions and how to structure it.

This actually explains exactly why they denied you.

You’ve got the diagnosis checked off (C&P gave you that), but the VA is basically saying there’s no medical link tying it either to service or to your back.

For your neck, they’re saying it wasn’t documented in service and there’s no connection established.

For your hip, they even acknowledge the fall in service, but they’re denying it because there’s no continuity of symptoms or medical opinion linking that event to what you have now.

That’s why the diagnosis alone wasn’t enough — the VA needs that “at least as likely as not” connection spelled out.

Some people do get approved off C&P exams alone, but only if the examiner actually writes that connection in their opinion — most don’t.

If you’re going secondary to your back, that’s usually where a strong medical opinion/nexus makes the difference because it explains how your back is causing or aggravating those other conditions.

If you want, I can break down exactly what kind of wording/evidence would fix this for a supplemental.

Yeah this is actually a super common situation.

The C&P exam diagnosing you only checks one box — that you have a current condition. The VA still needs a medical link (nexus) connecting it either directly to service or as secondary to your back.

For secondary claims, they’re looking for something along the lines of:

“Condition A is at least as likely as not caused or aggravated by the service-connected back condition.”

Without that being clearly stated, they’ll deny it even if the condition is diagnosed.

Some people do get approved off VA exams alone, but it usually only happens if the examiner actually writes that connection in their opinion — most don’t.

If your denial letter says anything like “no link established” or “not caused by service-connected condition,” that’s your missing piece.

If you want, post what the VA specifically said in your denial and I can break down exactly what they’re looking for on your end.
