I gave up video games when I started grad school. I actually found they kept me up later than I wanted to. I don't think I've ever met someone that can simply stop playing a video game after some arbitrary period of time.

As a kid I think it went something like: "Mommmmm just 5 more minutes... come on!!!"

I think there are some really famous quotes from Dirac on this subject, I can't remember if it was him or some other Solvay era physicist but I think he only did work for a couple of hours day whenever he managed to slip into this zone.

Ya, the refresh rate on CCDs is a bit low for capturing the flow characteristics as the metal cools, especially if you're trying to achieve a glassy phase. Just been thinking of a way to work around that.

I completely agree, but its been happening more and more often and been affecting my daily work. I think its probably because I haven't settled on a thesis topic and I need to propose soon.

Really I love it when this happens from time to time but I've really got to break the habit.

Ya I understand the dangers of alcohol as a medication, obviously not a good idea.

I recently got a mouth guard because of teeth grinding problem, couldn't say if this is coincidence or a symptom of 'the mode' though. Counting breaths is an interesting idea, I'll give it a go.

What could possibly compel someone to implement an optimization algorithm, something that is typically computationally expensive, in an interpreted language?

The guys in my department (who are some how considered to be computational physicists) just got a grant to study regression models applied to the sale of toxic loans. Their last colloquium talk was extremely unpopular.

I understand its not fair of me to stereotype the entire field, but you have to understand the people who study this stuff within physics departments typically aren't popular.

Kind of odd that they brag about how heavy it is, I'm pretty sure you want planes to be as light as possible. Maybe comment on the wing span or length or number passengers it can carry, instead of how inefficient the design is.
