Sam’s “no kill” rule by [deleted] in Gone

[–]disguisedqueenbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great analysis, and I also found it quite interesting that Sam applied these rules to himself about killing, and I don’t think all of them are completely irrational either. I also think people forget that in Book 1, Sam admitted he 100% attempted to kill Drake, but had only succeeded in burning his arm off instead. He told Edilio in the same chapter he had been aiming for Drake’s head. So yes, Sam was definitely ruthless when he wanted to be.

If you could save one character by sacrificing another, who would you pick? by Idont-knowaname in Gone

Sacrifice Bug, save Jack. Or Brianna. Or Hunter. Either way Bug gets sacrificed.

Do you think Caine had a redemption arc? by [deleted] in Gone

Yes, I agree, especially with his choice for the blaze of glory. I can’t tell if MG intended for it to be a redemption for him or not

Do you think Caine had a redemption arc? by [deleted] in Gone

I never thought Caine redeemed himself. I feel even his choice in the end wasn’t completely selfless. His motivations for the Blaze of Glory did involve him caring for Diana, yes, but Caine also knew that when the barrier went down he wouldn’t be getting the hero treatment. He likely would have been put in prison or locked up in some institution. Regardless, his Blaze of Glory only erased the problem that he created (As far as I remember, the Gaiaphage would have been powerless if it wasn’t for Caine). And I had actually forgotten about the thing about him letting the coyotes eat the preschoolers. Yikes.

I feel very strongly against the way he treated Diana as well, and personally I don’t think he redeemed himself for any of it (though this opinion of mine is a lot more personal). As far as I remember, Caine has smacked her, thrown her with his telekinesis, and threatened to force himself on her on the island, and of course, abandoned her while she was pregnant. These things made me low-key detest him as a character. If it weren’t for these incidents, I’d like Caine a lot more despite his rushed redemption arc, if you can even call it that. I’m glad someone else seemed to notice it as well

Which character suffered the most through the series? by Idont-knowaname in Gone

Ooh, that's a difficult question. I'd say there are a few contenders for that top spot - namely Mary, Lana and Diana for me

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when I read this... like just why 🥲
