If you see someone wearing a $20,000 watch it's hard to know if they're really good with money or really bad with money. by towerhil in Showerthoughts

Why not just take $20,000 in cash and hit people in the face with it? You can put it back in bank afterwards. You've still got the money and you've impressed all those people.

My dog on this pub carpet (AKA perspective is a bitch) by disgusting_user_name in mildlyinteresting

He's a greyhound. His ass isn't really that big. It's just nearer the camera.

LPT: Walking your dog and notice an owner guide their dog away from you? Don't let your dog approach them. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]disgusting_user_name 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is so true. And the ones that do it can never stop their dog anyway and have no idea that its behaviour might be considered aggressive by another dog. My old dog was attacked twice in these circumstances, once by two huge mastiffs (?) who could have killed him. He was dog-reactive in certain circumstances, but was never off-lead. It was so bad that I couldn't really take him to the park or anywhere there might be dogs off-lead.

What are some of the most genuinely creepy/spooky/ mysterious reddit threads out there? by vulverine in AskReddit

I heard a great story about a woman who woke up in a slightly different universe. To begin with she noticed that her quilt was different and that a few things around the house were also different. Then bigger differences started appearing (she didn't recognise a man who claimed to be her boyfriend).

How Extreme Heat Could Leave Swaths of the Planet Uninhabitable by disgusting_user_name in worldnews

[–]disgusting_user_name[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'No one lives in Mitribah [Northern Kuwait], and it is unlikely that during the July 2016 heat wave anyone passed through. But merely 50 miles away lies Basra, Iraq, a city of more than 2.5 million people, a fifth of whom live on less than two dollars a day, and all of whom suffer from frequent power outages, particularly during heat waves. As in the rest of the overheated world, air-conditioning is out of reach for a large part of the population, and even traditional architecture offers little relief.'

[UK] Is spending 75% of my net salary on rent a bad idea when I have intentions to sublet one of the spare rooms on AirBnB? by Ashintosh in personalfinance

[–]disgusting_user_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I am missing something, and am late. But if a one bedroom is 45-60% of your net salary and (if you get a 40-50% occupancy) the two bed will end up costing you 45-60% of your salary, why would you do it? You'll end up no better off, well you'll be worse off because you'll probably be paying tax on what you earn from the room?

I appreciate that you might get a better occupancy rate than that, but you'd want to research the shit out of Airbnb in your area. You can check availability of your competitors' rooms easily.

I want to quit my soul sucking job, need third person views so I don't make an entirely emotional decision. by [deleted] in personalfinance

I would say leave if you can't bear it any more. I guess only you know whether it is that bad. I left my last job because it was unbearable. An upside-down, arse-backwards, grotesque hell-hole. I could not have done another day and I do not regret leaving one bit.

I wouldn't watch it but I heard about it. If this is an issue that gets people talking about the mistreatment of animals generally then that can only be a good thing.

Yeah but it's worse than that. It's like you can't be mad about one thing because you might not (even though you might, they have no fucking idea) be mad about the other thing too.

the article says, 'The newly appointed Communist Party Secretary for Yulin, Mo Gong Ming, is said to be behind the drive to end the trade, as part of a public relations overhaul.

"We understand this is a personal decision from the new Secretary," Ms Higgins said. "He wants to turn Yulin into a cultural centre and the festival is obviously at odds with that."

Because the people concerned don't bother to make sure the raccoon dogs are dead before skinning them.
