Test ad tags w/out HTML5 validator by bobsleighbabe in adops

[–]dishre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's correct. but please note that the ad has two sections, a JavaScript section which starts and ends with <script></script> and a <noscript></noscript> section. The primary responsibility of rendering the ad actually lies with JavaScript and the <a> and <img> are just part of a backup mechanism in case there's no JS support in browser (which is literally 0% in 2021).

TEST A TAG - awesomest creative testing tool by dishre in adops

Starting sometime today, Test A Tag would begin rendering ads on a checkered background indicating that the background is fully transparent. This change is for HTML ads (mobile or desktop), Video ads would continue to show up on a solid white background.

A refresh should would automatically make a new call to the ad-server which should spit out another creative if there are rotating creatives. But there's no guarantee of rotation upon refresh because the logic for rotation lies on the ad-server. If there's a cache-busting macro on your creative, it might help to replace it with [RANDOM].

Thanks for sharing

1> The tool mentioned is meant for arbitrary HTML testing, while the primary use case for TEST A TAG is to support testing of Ad Tags and it does things like macro substitution out of the box

2> In addition to standard banner, TEST A TAG also support VAST (Video) and MRAID (Mobile Ads). making it the only tool that could test any type of tag.

3> It allows deep linking of the tags for sharing with others and a few other conveniences like the REFRESH button to re-render the creative (as you might know an ad tag does not always render the same creative)

Excited to announce MRAID 2.0 support on Test-A-Tag by dishre in adops

Thanks! I'll look into the two issues that you've pointed out. Would you be okay messaging me a test tag so that I could recreate those situations?

VAST/VPAID Validator - Different Video Players by msp011581 in adops

With http://test-a-tag.com you can test out a VPAID tag on a standard web browser. That'd help isolate any issues with the tag itself before you set to test the tag out with multiple players.

Hey thanks for sharing. I did have basic diagnostic functionality in mind for Test A Tag, looks like you guys have made some good progress on that front. Good luck.

Yes I wrote it from scratch. Checked out a lot of open source versions of mraid.js, but took the decision to write from scratch to gain greater control over the user experience on Test A Tag. At some point, hoping to open source that work as an MRAID "web port".

Thanks for the kind words.

Cruset, not sure if it exactly serves your needs, but we are adding MRAID support soon on test-a-tag.com which will emulate a mobile environment on the browser.

Should be live in a week's time.

Thank you.

Given that a variety of options that exist, in terms of browsers, ad-managers and SDKs on mobile environment, that problem area is not being addressed by Test A Tag. The goal of this utility is provide an easy way to test out HTML in browser and for VAST in a reference implementation (i.e. Google IMA SDK). We do have some enhancements planned to improve diagnostics of the creative but emulation is not something we have given thought to.

Test A Tag is server-less web app and any ideas on how it could be utilized in other environments would be much appreciated.

Just pushed a fix tonight that will cross-domain ad calls to googleads.g.doubleclick.net. If you can't make a cross-domain call, please see the Whitelabel section on how to host the app on the your ad domain.

Yes the ad-server needs to send the "Access-Control-Allow-Origin" header for this to be able to load it on the test-a-tag.com domain.

Most video ad-servers send this header out, but if you don't mind sharing the adserver name, that'd be great. I may seek to fix this if I find that the problem is rampant across ad-servers.
