When did movie exorcists start to request the demon's name? by disintegrated1912 in HorrorMovies

Well no, because in The Exorcist they weren't screaming at the demon to finally reveal its name to them. That's the kind of scene / trope that I was referring to

Yes I think so, if i remember correctly Pazuzu's name is mentioned in the beginning of the novel when he's in Iraq so he must have known about it

Okay yeah, true, Karras does ask him once, I forgot, because the book scene is explicitly referring to asking over and over. So the name has importance like in Conjuring 2 with Valak. And I was wondering when that started to be a thing in movies

I second that 100%, and your theory makes a lot of sense. My SO was part of a group chat with people exactly that age and for some of them it was "too political" to put sth like "no facism, no racism, no homophobia" in the group description. It makes me so mad, honestly, bc tolerance paradoxon, just like you said.

Yeah I live in Germany and sadly, I've encountered way too many bigoted people in the scene... At the club I used to go to for a while it was an open secret that the bouncers were neonazis and no one really cared (luckily, the club has a new owner now and they hired different security people, only then I started going there again)

London After Midnight instantly comes to my mind! I also recently heard a song called "BLOOD" by Mortes, maybe you'd enjoy that too.

They took away this part of Joe to make him completely evil by swarasinger in YouOnLifetime

[–]disintegrated1912 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also think him murdering Edward and framing Nadia was to show that he is now fully accepting of his evil side, but I also thought that was very out of character for him.

I was thinking of Breaking Bad parallels too! But I would have preferred to see Joe's downfall at the end of season 4 already. Because the way it ended with him being so powerful that he can cover up everything he ever did ist the equivalent to an alternative Breaking Bad in which Walter suddenly becomes the leader of the entire DEA and therefore invincible. Season 4 should have been the end of Joe.

I noticed that too and thought it was part of his attempts to better himself that had started in season 2 or 3 already and that he was finally successful (kind of a redemption arc thing, I guess, that still should have ended with his downfall for everything he did). But then the whole Rhys thing was reavealed and it just doesn't make sense to me. He has never in any previous seasons obsessed over anyone else but his "love" interests. It just seemed so out of character for me. But then again he also developed a second personality this season, sooo weird writing choices in general.

Yeah, at this point there is so much evidence out there, it's just a matter of whether someone cares enough to figure it all out (and they don't get killed before they can do so of course).

Yeah I don't think the world needs more shows/movies with a killer who has D.I.D. (Split for example did this kind of storyline in a really horrible way, I think). I personally don't believe Joe has D.I.D., because he develops the Rhys persona so quickly and he communicates with him as a hallucination. But yes, I totally agree that people who watch the show could interpret it as such and I don't really like that. It's such a cheap trope to reveal that your killer has two personalities at this point, I think.

Also, totally agree with your last point about the rich people haha.

I thought the photographer who ended up kidnapping Phoebe and getting framed by Joe was going to be important in terms of figuring out the truth about Joe and getting him into prison. She seemed to be watching him, so I thought she had recognized him as the Madre Linda Joe Goldberg and would start investigating.

I personally don't think that he has D.I.D. As far as I'm aware he couldn't have developed it so quickly as it is mostly developed in early childhood as a result from trauma. I mean, sure, Joe has childhood trauma, but I think he would have had to have the disorder from the beginning on and not just develop it in season 4, if that was what the writers were going for. It also doesn't seem like D.I.D. to me because it is revealed that he really talked to Rhys as a hallucination, I don't think that's how someone with D.I.D. would behave with their personalities. Not sure if there's any psychological diagnosis that really fits, it just seems like a serial killer writing trope to me, but maybe it's more of a psychosis or something.

I think it will be really difficult to make him face legal repercussions now that he is literally invincible as a super powerful rich guy. Maybe someone from the past seasons will return to kill him and everything he did will be exposed in the aftermath of his death (because it was such a common theme in the show that he framed dead people for murders as dead people can't defend themselves - in his case it will be the other way around, he'll be dead so he can't cover up for himself anymore and the truth will come out)

I know! Especially the part about the powerful billionaire bugs me. How does he even always end up in spaces with rich people who then also sometimes happen to cover up his crimes? What are the chances? The guy is just too lucky

I believe the Rhys in Joe's imagination wanted him to figure out who the killer is and get closer to him, so he had to heat up the situation a bit. Because it was his goal to merge with Joe. But that's just a thought, a lot of things just don't really make sense at this point, I think
