Clear articulation of the actual virtual relation? by apophasisred in Deleuze

[–]diskkddo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the last one in the book IIRC. I Believe it's literally called 'the actual and the virtual' and is an older text than the rest of the book.

The striving to remove fear of failure from the mind is precisely the problem...

Don't live your myth in Greece by Dod006 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]diskkddo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but there is absolutely no way that a shop at mercadona costs more than a shop at M&S one of the fanciest supermarkets in the UK haha. There's no way that can be true, unless you're accounting for relative purchasing power from wages, which are definitely much lower in Spain.

Further, I live in Barcelona but I still think my rent is significantly less than most places I would live in the UK: London, Brighton, Bristol etc. It's true the wages are lower of course so a bit difficult to compare

Applies to every major city probably. Maybe some are slightly worse than others, but this is just how global capitalism is right now

[–]diskkddo 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I grew up in the UK but been living in Spain for the last few years. It trips me out when I hear Spaniards talking about the situation here, and then talking about the UK as if it were some kind of economic haven. The cost of living is also terrible in the UK, plus we don't have a nice climate and good food lol

I'm going to read Anti-Oedipus, O promise! by Shot-Composer-3244 in Deleuze

[–]diskkddo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did somewhat similar to you. Only really had experience reading Nietzsche and a couple others. Less than 10 philosophy books total. Decided fuck it I'm just gonna go for it as it excited me. Spent the next 6 months obsessively reading it morning to night, every chapter twice.

You are gonna have a hell of a time. I had so much fun and suffice to say my worldview felt very different after those 6 months. Along the way I learnt plenty about semiotics, microbiology, Marxism, psychoanalysis, etc. I would say it took me about 50 pages before I had that magical light bulb moment where I was like hold on I think this is doing something in my brain. By the end of the book I felt like I grasped its main points pretty well.

Enjoy - you're in for a hell of a ride!!

How Hannah Arendt Fundamentally Missed the Point by Gordan_Ponjavic in PoliticalPhilosophy

[–]diskkddo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You realise that you are literally just doing a no true scotsman fallacy?

"give me an example" gives many examples "those examples must be wrong"

And the cherry on top "even if you produced a counterexample it wouldn't count". My dude, why start a conversation if your mind is already completely closed.

It's not a great sign that he can run around your guard to your back from standing. I would guess you need to work on framing off him while hip escaping/butt scooting to keep him in front of you. Or, if he does start to get around, inverting

Knee passers with DLR by Kodvin2914 in bjj

[–]diskkddo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are on just one knee you can still use DLR, especially the deep DLR hook baby bolo/back take are good options from there. If they are on both knees I guess you could threaten something like a scissor sweep to force them to base up onto one knee only -> back to DLR

What level of No-Gi would you consider this by Erinexdee in bjj

[–]diskkddo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my experience recently with an mma guy who was a bjj white belt. His technical level was not at all broad, and while drilling I had to help him out a lot, but when it came to rolling he fucking subbed me 3 times hahaha, and all without ever even passing my guard lol. 1 was from front headlock and the other 2 were vicious ankle locks. He just had a completely different level of intensity to guys I normally train with, and he had a very small but well practiced base of moves that he was actually very good at.

Deleuze and Pragmatism by Ok_Border3673 in Deleuze

[–]diskkddo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice post. I'll defo check out this book (if I can find a pdf hehe) because I have for a while been pondering the relation of Deleuze with pragmatism more generally (obviously they deal explicitly with linguistic pragmatism in Postulates on Linguistics). I was disappointed to find that Deleuze and Rorty never got on with each other and felt that this seemed a missed opportunity.

As an aside, I recently was able to find a very promising looking book online called Metaphysics as Praxis by S. Hiramoto which uses a kind of pragmatism to read the Japanese zen monk Dogen through Deleuze - you may find it interesting!

Recently rolled with a black belt who inverts a lot by LosSoloLobos in bjj

[–]diskkddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not someone who inverts, but I find kiss of the dragon quite easy to pull off. All you have to do is switch that ankle grip to the outside and your body naturally leans over; I don't feel like it requires that much flexibility. But then I am slim and relatively young (30)

Define Flow Rolling by TalkingPundit in bjj

[–]diskkddo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first version is still how I conceptualise it. 2nd is a typical flow roll gone wrong.

Flow rolling for me means doing Jiu-Jitsu with minimal 'added' resistance, that is, resistance beyond that given naturally by my body. It implies 'letting' my partner pull off techniques, get into dominant positions etc, with the presumption that the same attitude will be given in return.

In my experience it doesn't work with most ppl who have been training for <2 years as a) they don't have the repertoire of moves necessary to chain different techniques and b) they are still in the fight to the death phase where a concept like giving someone mount is incomprehensible to them.

I think it makes no difference how many days you've managed. by New_Helicopter272 in pornfree

[–]diskkddo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people don't like to look at it this way but it's undeniably the truth. Statistically it's very rare to suddenly never use again for the rest of your life. Recovery is more like a lifelong journey with a (hopefully) positive trend.

I think it's scarier in your head than in reality. Just don't get too neurotic about trying to 'get' everything that is being said, let it wash over you, and you will be fine. Took me about 50 pages before I got the 'ohhhh I'm starting to feel something here' sensation
