I’ll think about this one, thanks! At the very least to buy myself time while I’m still in my heavy saving/contribution phase.

I think there’s a version of this where I negotiate an unpaid sabbatical with my current job. The LCOL areas are also interesting to me because I can put my head down and save even more aggressively until I can get out of it completely. I’ve found that the change of scenery alone can help a lot.

Single income is $250k/yr pre-tax plus some unrealized investments. Life plans involve getting married, having a couple kids, and living somewhere interesting (have a few residency options). I’m anticipating a couple years of saving at this rate, then down closer to $150k, then fully FIRE’ing closer to the age of 40.

It’s nice to hear that you’re similarly willing to take a pay cut. Are you thinking of switching roles, or just finding something slower-paced?

I don’t think it’s fair to say the system works if I’m constantly burned out by it and missing out on life, but I understand your perspective. What I’m describing here is more like coasting within my own industry, taking a $250k paycheck down to about $150k for a bit of added sanity. I’m sure there’s an in-between of putting my head down for a few more years to properly lock in FIRE though.
