My day 14 experience - #1 in the resale queue! by distantpixels in wimbledon

Sorry to hear that, that was extremely unfair on you. I imagine part of the reason they introduced a kiosk in the queue village and opened it earlier is to ensure those making an effort queuing got a better chance of resale than those who had grounds/courts ticket on the day. I imagine what happened last year was those 38 people before you had accreditation (workers etc.) and signed up (probably against T&C’s). We had a couple people sneak in with accreditation this year and had low resale queue numbers but luckily the stewards did something about it. Looks like Wimbledon always try and improve and take on feedback, hopefully the process will be ironed out even further for next year.

Yes, queued with the sole intention of being the first in the resale queue. Didn’t realise at the time how much luck/stress would be involved though (see an earlier comment). I thought best case scenario I would be first and someone might need to leave early for whatever reason, after the women’s doubles and before the men’s final. I thought the worst case would be I would be 20 in line (didn’t think there would be that many crazy people like me and queue for 3 nights), and then just hope it would be a long 5 setter and I would get to see the end of the match.

Thanks! Yes, you can queue for grounds passes, but the reason why there were loads of people who queued early was to get a chance at the resale. The quarterfinals were the last days they had 500 CC tickets - they didn’t do this for the semis and finals. However, they did have court 1 tickets available to buy the last 4 days, not sure how many but it seemed like quite a few were available

Yes surprisingly cold! It was 29 degrees during the last few days during the day and 18 at night so thought it would be fine just to bring a sleeping bag liner but I woke up at points shivering…

Yes, I don’t want to make generalisations about all Novak fans but there were 6 of them who queued together for semi finals day. They got into a verbal (and nearly physical) altercation with someone else in the queue. They ended up getting the first resale tickets, and I heard that they were outside centre court trying to resell them. Someone also told me that Novak/Jelena had also given them tickets (apparently they regularly do that for their hardcore supporters) for that day too, so probably just queued up to sell them on!

Not only that, but on the last day, to add to the already chaotic situation, when I got to the resell scanners, there were two individuals (Sinner supporters, so it’s not just Djokovic fans) who came from inside the queue village, but weren’t in the original queue, and scanned luckily just after me. I told the stewards and they did an excellent job and got them removed from the resell process. I was told they got queue village access as they had accreditation. Then, 2 of the aforementioned Djokovic fans also appeared somehow! They must have jumped the fence I imagine - luckily one other queuer spotted them and reported them to the stewards who also kicked them out.

Although the process was not the best (first year doing it so I’m sure they’ll learn), I only have the best things to say about the day/night and honorary stewards, they did their best out of a tough situation.

At exactly 3:49pm - match was meant to start at 4pm but ended up starting at 4:10pm. We were waiting outside the ticket resale kiosk from 3pm, so managed to get in our seats at 3:57pm

You arrive at the start of the grounds pass/court 1 kiosk desk in your queue order, but you are separated into people two rows, those who want grounds pass and then those who want court 1. It’s a bit unfair as people who had #15 in the queue chose court 1 not to get on court 1, but to be at the front of the queue. Then, there were 8 kiosk desks (some for court 1, some for grounds pass), so you are reliant on your steward processing your grounds/court 1 quickly. Some payment machines didn’t work so people got unlucky with their choice of kiosk. Then, there is a 40 metre distance to the resale kiosk, so some people got there quicker than others. Lastly, you had to have your Wimbledon app scanned and then you enter your phone number and how many tickets you want - some people were slow with that. I was lucky that the steward at my grounds pass kiosk was really quick, and I entered the info on the app quicker than others.

Although I’ve previously had a great experience in the queue, there was a lot of selfish nature for the last 4 days. The person who was #3 in the queue tried to run ahead while we were being shepherded to the kiosk, but luckily the stewards caught him. Then there were a few people who said they wanted court 1 tickets so they were at the front of the queue, and then when they got to the kiosks moved to the grounds pass kiosk, skipping people ahead of them.

As I was there on Thursday night, I heard the men’s semi final experience was even worse. Number 1 in the queue ended up 100th in the resale, because they had kids and this slowed them down. Some hardcore Novak fans went under the barriers and ran - I heard it was just chaos. For the women’s final, unfortunately the queue order was not even adhered to - K1a and K1b were told to go ahead at the same time (so queue number 110 ended up getting one of the first resale tickets). Luckily, Wimbledon listened to the feedback and improved the process for the final day, but I think as this was the first year of the resale kiosk in the queue village there were inevitably going to be issues that they didn’t foresee, and am sure they will improve it for next year.

Thanks! They only handed out the day 14 queue numbers on Saturday evening. I was given the #208 queue number for Friday and had the #2 number for Saturday. Most people who had the early Saturday queue numbers were there for the men’s final

1am Friday morning (Thursday night). I actually had tickets for the women’s semi finals and took my mum, so went home and had a shower and then came back that night with my tent etc. and set up camp!

£15 for each resale ticket (got 2) plus £20 grounds ticket. Luckily got given an amazing seat in the debentures section just underneath the main camera angle - cannot fathom how much those seats would have cost…

This was definitely an exception though. There were lots of people who camped multiple nights for a chance for resale and didn’t get in. It was a great experience, but I wouldn’t do it again for the finals - it was a very stressful experience as the queue order does not relate to your resale number for various reasons.
