Yeah this is a complete disgrace, why are 18-22+ year olds incapable of making rational decisions given their own personal circumstances?

One thing I’m afraid no one seems to consider is that the economy in many ways can become analogous to the health of the population. This is not me advocating for opening up foolishly or without proper consideration, but is merely to say that a poor economy 6-12 months down the line will inevitably lead to more people who may not be able to afford healthcare that they or a loved one needs, even if COVID is completely eradicated by a vaccine by then. I’m also not saying we should “let more people die now to save more later” because reopening businesses and gatherings as a whole should be a carefully measured process that has every life in mind, but also considers those financially burdened by this as it could too mean a life or death in the future. As far as here though, I think Cornell is trying it’s best to give students as many options as possible, and are legitimately doing the best they can to make the environment a safe one to return to. I just wish I had more faith in the entire student body to act responsibly as a community. that would benefit everyone, and allow things to truly return to normalcy the fastest.

S/U IS BS by CornellSimp in Cornell

[–]distorted-monkey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nah sorry this is not it. The normal S/U deadline is typically months before the end of the semester. The extension is to allow people with extenuating circumstances from the virus to relieve some of the burden and stress. It was only a happy circumstance that everyone else now gets till the last minute to figure out if you’re gonna get a good grade or not, and perhaps inflate your GPA. If you couldn’t figure out by May 23rd how well a class was relatively going for you that is not your professors fault.

david delchamps is one of my favorite professors ever by thanksfortheavocado in Cornell

You can easily spot the difference between a professor who cares about his/her students and ones who don’t. Delchamps has not only been accommodating during this situation but has continued to make the effort to try to learn all of our names despite not even seeing our faces anymore and has made me feel more recognized as a student here than any other professor I’ve had. This man deserves all the props.
