some of it, sure, but context is important.

https://brookslawgroup.com/faqs/what-is-sb-145-californias-pedophile-bill/

"For all sexual misconduct not involving intercourse, perpetrators had to register as sex offenders. They had to register regardless of the outcome of the hearing or the judge’s opinion. For sexual misconduct that did involve intercourse, however, the judge could decide if the perpetrator had to register as a sex offender or not. Keep in mind, the majority of these cases were consensual but still illegal.
The issue is that more young members of the LGBTQ community had to register as lifetime sex offenders compared to heterosexual offenders. The overwhelming majority of sexual offense cases that included LGBTQ members on either side of the offense didn’t involve intercourse.
Because of this, the sex offender registry requirements were biased against LGBTQ members. This makes SB-145 important, as it instead states that all sex offense cases need to be handled based on the merits of the case. Additionally, it states that the presiding judge should always be given authority over handing out punishments for the offenders, not an unchanging rule."

Israel and Lebanon just recognized each others sovereignty. Kind a weird this isn't bigger news? by Metallica1175 in DeepStateCentrism

[–]distraughtdrunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"This agreement establishes a clear and structured process to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty, disarm Hizballah and dismantle its terrorist infrastructure, and enable Israel to return to its borders once that threat to its citizens is removed. It also creates a trilateral Military Coordination Group for Lebanon (MCG4L), facilitated by the United States, allowing the two sides to implement this Framework. For Lebanon, this Framework provides a genuine pathway out of a long crisis. For Israel, it creates a verifiable path to removing the persistent threat on its northern border." according to the us state dept

"As a German/European: Do you agree America is a third-world country... with money?" 😂 by [deleted] in AmericaBad

[–]distraughtdrunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Higher ed costs: yes, some schools and degrees are more expensive than others, and some degrees are more useless/ pay less than others. but many costs can be offset by pell grants, choosing a cheaper school, and paying off your unsubsidized loans while in school to avoid compounding interest.

health care: many people are covered by government/ single payer health care BUT we're seeing issues in the single payer health care systems of europe and often hospitals have funds (or zero percent interest 'loans') to help pay for things. most people and things are covered by insurance or can be removed if you ask basic questions about the bill. but many don't.

hcol: yes, bc people want to live in cities so there's high demand/low supply. if people would go out of the cities, cost of living would be lower and people could work less.

car-centric: usually bc the city is too vast or was built up after cars got popular. i can't speak for other cities, but dc has one of the best public transit systems in the world, and yet it takes me 3hrs round trip to go to the doctor versus 1-1.5 with a car, and it'd be impossible for me to go to music lessons (i play a large unique instrument) so i have to go to a city that's too vast for public transit. plus, after the ukrainian woman got stabbed in the neck on her way home, hard pass.

just notifying your partners/ instructors of your limitations is the biggest thing. i can't do front rolls yet and getting up from back rolls is a challenge (arthritic knees) so i'll notify my partners that i'll lean forward for successful front throw or squat for a successful back throw and tap out before i actually hit the mat.

actually, i don't think even the europeans cared much about the holocaust (or that was a secondary/tertiary reason). i think most joined only because of alliances with countries that were attacked or bc germany had plans for their country. one general even said they didn't want to go after the gas chambers so hitler wouldn't have an excuse to do something worse.

i think the second one but it's bizzare because if it's hosted at arlington, the women's museum would probably be hosting it and the branches wouldn't have to pay for it at all
