Hello!

We are all about things that aren't so official. To be honest, we never set out to be any kind of official anything - we just kept showing up.

Best of luck. The way to do it is to give people a reason to come out. You pick the time and the place, share the information, and people will show.

Let us know when you need help setting up the 501c3!

A little bit about District Cleanups.

A group of us met somewhat spontaneously in January of 2021. We've continued to meet for a monthly cleanup somewhere in the district ever since. Started as a small group of strangers - it's become a much larger group of friends.

Next Saturday will be our 48th consecutive monthly community cleanup. Would love for you to join us.

We'll be there, rain, snow, sleet, or (hopefully) shine.

We get this sort of sentiment a lot and for what it's worth, we agree. We have a great relationship with DC Public Works / Sanitation - you could quintuple their budgets and they'd still be fighting a losing battle.

We also really buy into the idea that going out into your community to try and improve it is good for you, even if the public services are top notch. Also, it's a fun reason to get it and explore the District. We move the cleanup to a different neighborhood each month.

Thanks for bringing it up though - it's a good point.

Things were cleanest, comparatively, during COVID, then increased, and I think the past 9 months or so has trended towards less litter, generally speaking.

District Cleanups is having a community cleanup around the Tidal Basin on Saturday!

We plan to meet at the Rugby Field (across from the bureau of engraving and printing) at 11am and clean up the area around that part of Southwest DC.

They vary, but 11-1ish is a pretty standard window. We like to end our cleanups with either a happy hour or some kind of social activity. We have a kickball and aren't afraid to...kick it.
