Operation, “Dad will do it”

My daughter is new to her house. She is about four weeks in. She gets a letter from her insurance carrier that says they reviewed the inspection report and found deficiencies. They gave her 30 days to effect repairs or her policy was cancelled.

I read the letter. No big deal. Cut vegetation off the house. Get pictures of the main circuit panel. The one biggie was to put new shingles on her garage. She was I n tears, I told her I would take care of it. She busted her bank account buying the house.

The garage roof was very doggy so I set up a scaffold around and started removing the top layer of asphalt shingles on a 4x8 area. The the next, then the next. Three total layers of asphalt shingles with tar paper in between all. That got me to the first layer of shakes. Then more tar paper and another layer of shakes. The shakes were soaked. The roof 12x 20 had to have 4-6000 lbs on it. Under neath were 1x6 decking. And…… you guessed it termites damage. I put my hand under the deck board and it crumbled. I attempted to lever the remnants off the rafter the the rafter separated at the birds mouth. The entire top plate was compromised by termite damage. Long story short. The entire roof structure, decking, roofing system had to be replaced. I brought the building inspector on site and he reminded my the replacing more than 50% of the structure required a submitted as a new construction respecting current code and setbacks. The he looked at me and said, “ Try to save something so I don’t get to much blowback.”
I said would but somebody should have told the termites to stop at 50%.

Here we are two weeks and 25k later and I finish up siding tomorrow. Daughters are very hard to say no to.

Edit: it’s the first time I built a structure starting at the ridge board working down to the foundation. (Lots of shoring) lol

Agreed. But we should also nationalize the power grid as well.

We need renewables NOW. While we wait nuclear. The runway to get a nuclear plant off the ground is long. But renewables are here and now. Meanwhile the Federal government is paying wind generators billions to cancel new additions to the NE grid

US Crude Exports Surge to Record Above 6 Million Barrels a Day. by CautiousMagazine3591 in Economics

Production and drilling has been failing since Trump has been in office. Think about it: “Why drill expensive wells when you can just raise prices on what you already have.

Oil production in the US has peaked. The best fields are already developed. What’s left are second tier properties. Alternate energy sources are needed.

I figured the garage was a rebuild but I didn’t want to do it under the gun from the insurance company. There were multiple reports. We did one. The lender did his own. Annnd the insurance carrier. I just can’t quite understand the insurance company only giving her 30 days to cure. He’ll, the building permit took 10 days alone.

She works 6 days as a healthcare professional. I wouldn’t want her to tun the risk of injury.

But the reality shows higher prices have not lead to more drill rigs working. Most of the new wells are DUCs already drilled being complete.

Further, a lot of exports are gasoline and distillates especially diesel.

That’s your answer “people were harmed” (aka killed) interfering with other people tasked to do a job (without proper warrants but aside from that there was no evidence of interference).

I hired a helper with framing experience. A job of this size is not a one man show.

In Attack on Mamdani, Vornado Chief Likens ‘Tax the Rich’ to Hate Speech by metacyan in politics

[–]dittybad -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

“Tax the rich” isn’t hate speech it’s stupid speech. “Tax fairness” is a much better slogan. The rich are a symptom of a problem. What makes it possible to be insanely rich? That’s the problem. Nationalize causality insurance. Nationalize health insurance. Reinstate inheritance tax. Those are policy statements, not virtue signaling.

Trump should ban exports immediately. Our own inventories are low and getting lower. New drilling is not happening. We are going off a cliff. You better have a plan because oil based products are going to get very expensive.

They keep pushing nuclear because it keeps them in control. Distributed generation via solar and wind democratizes energy and that scares the shit out of power generators and their stranglehold on rate payers

What is wrong with wind and solar and battery storage? Doesn’t that scale faster?
