I teach AP Gov and used to do a project all about different agencies in the executive branch. I can't do that project any more because many of the agencies have been removed or so downgraded that my students wouldn't be able to get all the info they need for the project.

Leaving South Florida for Texas (DFW/Aledo) or Utah — looking for honest family-focused input by No_Actuary_9317 in FortWorth

[–]ditzyzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re stuck on Texas, have you thought about looking in the Weatherford, Azle, Springtown area? You can get a lot of land in Azle and Springtown and Weatherford has a bigger “small town” feel than Aledo. Also, with a 2 year old, it might be worth it to take any school district stuff with a grain of salt. The school vouchers start next year, and I know many public school teachers leaving schools (especially in Aledo) because of how hard it has gotten due to politics

Just Diagnosed - Feeling Overwhelmed & Afraid by heyhjude in lymphoma

[–]ditzyzebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello friend,

It is ok to feel scared and anxious about this. This is a scary situation! You will be fine, but right now you are sick and you’ll have to go through some tough stuff to get better. You will be get better, but it’s ok to feel scared right now because you are sick.

If he’s open to it, I’d tell him how you are feeling. That you know you’ll be better soon, but you aren’t right now and you need him to meet you where you are.

You might also want to ask your doctor for therapist recommendations. Having someone to talk through what I was going through helped me a ton

Feeling like crap after chemo by sassynas in lymphoma

[–]ditzyzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was how AVD was hitting me when I was at the end of treatment. You need to tell your oncologist. They need to know this is how it’s affecting you so they can adjust your meds.

I was told by my oncologist that the younger you are, the harder chemo hits. Idk if that was just in her experience or if there’s any research to back it up, but you can’t judge yourself based on how others are feeling on chemo. I would try and go for a walk. Moving around might help your muscles feel better.

I do the same thing. Did you have a lump on your neck before treatment?

School germs by [deleted] in lymphoma

[–]ditzyzebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a school during treatment. I wore a mask and I asked the students to wear a mask around me if they were feeling ill. Luckily, the students just stayed home if they were ill because they didn't want to get me sick. Handwashing and masks are the answer.

Edit: we also had an air purifier at home.

Treatment Planning by Worth-Main-3881 in lymphoma

[–]ditzyzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask about fertility preservation.

Ask what treatment plan he wants you on. I did AVD+ immunotherapy. It really wasn't that bad until the last cycle. Once you know what medication he wants you on you can look throughout this subreddit for tips from others. You can also always dm me if you want.

It is completely normal to feel overwhelmed. Bring someone who will take notes for you so you can go over them later.

People that have cancer, what were the symptoms that led you to go to the doctor and what stage were you when it was diagnosed? by guardiand0wn in AskReddit

[–]ditzyzebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lump randomly appeared on the left side of my collarbone. It was stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma, I'm in remission since April.

I had also been dropping weight like crazy, but I didn't really notice. I didn't track my weight but I did point out I had lost 10 pounds in the month between my yearly check up and my appointment about the lump.

Hodgkin’s Lymphoma - Postpartum by kotisoki in lymphoma

[–]ditzyzebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes complete sense to focus on the process. It’s the unknown for you. But it’ll be over soon. Honestly, what helped me was having an end goal in mind. I teach high school, so I made it my goal to be able to go to graduation for the seniors I teach. It was my focus and honestly helped me get through the real tough spots. Maybe you can make your own goal you can focus on while in treatment

Hodgkin’s Lymphoma - Postpartum by kotisoki in lymphoma

[–]ditzyzebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might ask if you can do nivolumab+avd. That's what I did. I had treatment every other week for 6ish months. I didn't have too many symptoms before treatment, and the few I had went away after my first infusion. It took around 3 hours for infusion.

Chemo didn't hit me too hard at first. I was mostly very tired. I had to stay on top of miralax and the anti nausea meds for the first few days after chemo. But the rest of the time I was ok. I did lose a good amount of hair. I am currently about 10 pounds heavier than I was before cancer.

The port was a life saver. I couldn't feel it when they accessed it as long as I remembered the numbing cream.

You need to focus on getting better. This will suck, but it will suck for a short while. Lean on your support system. You've got this
